Just curious if anyone is using Apple Airtags hidden in their rigs to track them if they wander off as stolen or borrowed without permission?

Yep. See TagVault. You can get them on Amazon. Small waterproof and self adhesive enclosure for AirTags. I have them hidden on all my vehicles where nobody will ever find them.

I actually find the app and sync very useful. I understand some do not share that sentiment.

OTA update yesterday…. Not sure what it did but it did!

😂 Except if the bad guy has an iPhone, then the AirTag automatically tells him.

Yup. I have one stashed away in the Bronco.

That's a terrible idea, when do we start?

AirTags are absolutely useless for this purpose. As a security measure to prevent stalkers from slipping one into your wallet, purse, etc. Apple has the AirTags announce themselves to anyone who has an iPhone and has been hanging round those AirTags for any period of time. Do you think that car thieves don't know this? And Air tags are listed in that article as one of the better ones with no subscription. My Airtag is locked on my center console vault. They may know they are being tracked but will not be able to disable it.

A few points on this statement. First, if your car is stolen, you’re going to know about it and report it within hours. It takes several hours before an AirTag will announce itself. You’ll likely have your car back by then. Second, the enclosures I use help muffle the noise of the tag, and their 3M adhesive lets me install them in places that are very hard to get to on the exterior of the car. Third, as you know these trucks are noisy af. Nobody driving one is going to even hear an AirTag under the car somewhere. Even if they do, it will take hours for them to find it and even get to it. Fourth, you can install multiple tags in your car to make it even harder. Fifth, lost mode will present the thief with a message on their iPhone which may be enough to get them to abandon the vehicle. Sixth, if you’re really paranoid about it, there are YouTubes out there showing how easy it is to disable the speaker on AirTags.

I have yet to find another solution that is fairly tool proof, and also preserves my privacy while driving where a third party can’t eavesdrop on my location (even with a warrant).

Securalert in FP app is also good as it gives real time notification if your doors or hood is opened.

While on the subject of added security, how difficult would it be to get our cameras that are factory installed, to go into Sentry Mode ala Tesla? To monitor activity around the car, alert you via a text or phone call if there is an issue, trigger the alarm if needed, and provide you with a live view.
I mean, our vehicles are already equipped with a modem and cellular service wifi capability ( subscription required), to make it a possibility.
I know there are 3rd party vendors that also make all this a possibility. I would think that with a software update or patch the FordPass would too. Right?
Or what a bout a PIN to drive ? We all know that transponder keys are already available on the deep dark interweb, and supposedly there are apps and software that can replicate your key fob if it is within close proximity.
For best piece of mind, make sure your insurance policy includes your accessories and please make this the highest amount of money possible. (Current Prices on Accessories)
If the criminal element wants your vehicle, it's most likely because of the accessories mounted or hanging advertising your vehicle. they will not be deterred by the possibility of an Apple tag/ GPS device in your vehicle. However,
they would be deterred if they are aware that the owners come back to their cars when alerted.
Just my two cents.

They can get all of the info about me that "they" desire, and there's nothing I can do about it. In exchange, I'll take the remote start feature, since my Basesquatch didn't have it as an option.

Why do folks install a device that allows the truck to be stolen, then go find it. I've read there are devices that can tell if they are in the truck and shut them down. Why don't you install something to stop the theft? Not pointing fingers, just asking.

PIN to drive?
Detect an intrusion, a different key, your phone not in the car, etc, etc.
Ask for a PIN on the infotainment screen. Give a 10 second wait or trigger alarm, flame thrower, release swarm of bees/dog/scorpions/viper or rattlesnake.... Or just a loud piercing noise unbearable to the human ear.
Or, a hidden kill switch?
.... All of this is futile if the criminal is towing your car away 🤷🏻‍♂️ that's why GPS is a perceived added piece of mind.

i turned on secure idle in FORScan, so it will complicate an RF attack. They’d need to likely steal my keys. If they’re going to do that, I don’t want to give them an excuse to come back and hold a gun to my head. I’d rather send the cops their location.
