Just curious on which gas most are using? Expecting my Base Sasquatch
This week & wanna start with the 91,
Unless the consensus is: 87 is
and no real need fir 91 plus. TIA

It was my understanding that the compression created by the turbos required a high octane for better gas mileage and less wear and tear on the motor. I’m coming from the 2.0 Liter turbo jeep motor and I only used 91 octane. I plan on only using 91 octane on my Bronco.

I have been using 87 octane with my 2.7. So far I have 3,035 miles on it.

I use 87.
Have gone with (2) tanks of premium and did not see any gas mileage gain from it.

I'll toss in a tank of premium here and there, or if I plan on towing my trailer long distance. Other then that, it will be regular for me, gas too damn expensive right now, and 17.3 mpg isn't helping my commute any.

the ecoboost engines are designed to run on 87 with the ability to produce more power with premium fuel

These motors are pretty flexible. I use 91 in my Focus ST and Bronco and occasionally 87 if the price gets too high.

I’ve even put 85 in my wife’s Expedition 3.5L eco boost. She drives it like a grandma.

Here's what the manual says about it.

Do not use 85. I'm sticking with 91.

if you want the horsepower that is advertised for your engine - use 91. If you're willing to lose maybe 10-15 hp, 87 will work for you
Reservation: 7/20/20 | MY '21 order: 2/1/21 | MY '22 order: 10/22/21 | Blend 8/5, built 8/8, 'built' status 8/27, in my driveway 10/12/22

in CA, the highest octane we can get is 91, unless you go with E85

Vehicle can handle 87. However you get both more torque and hp from 91. Further anyone familiar with these engines knows 91 is what you want to burn to get both the best performance and longevity out of these engines. Unless there is absolutely no choice, I don't and won't ever burn 87 in an ecoboost engine.

Ford knew it would be an issue to require 91 octane in all of its ecoboost engines, but 91 produces more power and allows the engine to more efficiently combust. Long term 91 should provide better engine longevity. It's also why you can get engine ping with 87 octane.

You are correct. Those using lower octane are rolling the dice. Especially on long term wear and tear.

If you're leasing and don't plan or care about keeping it long term, do 87 and do the recommended 5-10k oil changes, otherwise 91/93 and 3k, since who the hell really thinks it'll last that long?

91 I've done test after test, better power no ping and better mileage.

Plus if you have the Exxon Mobil Smart card starting Feb 1 you get 12 cents instant savings on premium and 10 cents on bilge water
