Had a mouse make a nest in my 2022 Bronco. The mouse chewed a couple wires in my engine and the repair shop said I need a whole new wiring harness. The real problem though, is that they are saying they won’t be able to get the wiring harness till 2025! I love my Bronco and obviously want it back ASAP. A three to six month wait just to get one part seems extreme. Has anyone else had this issue?

Are the wires in such a spot that they cannot be spliced and soldered to at least make a temporary repair ?

Well I’m not a mechanic but it looks that way to me. Now the place that our insurance company referred us to has to fix it a certain way. I was also told that the wires have a coating on the outside that attracts critters, so this could happen again. It’s parked in a garage so I thought it was safe.

They have changed the wire coating to a soy based coating. To be more friendly to the environment.

After I saw critter signs under the hood of the Bronco in my garage I bought an el cheapo ultra sonic critter deterrent and it seems to be working. No signs of critters for the last year.
A friend at a GM dealership in Billings. MT says the critter/wire harness issue is a big deal due to the change in the wire coatings.....
I hope you get it fixed sooner than later.

This happened to me about 20 years ago or so with a Jeep Wrangler. Field mice got under the hood and chewed a bunch of wires.

Since then, I go out and start the vehicle every few days if it's not been driven. I think they make sprays you can use as deterrent / prevention or use something like Sven mentions.

Good luck!

This happened to my daughters new Toyota 4Runner she purchased in 2019. She had it 3 months and it ended up a $750 repair. Toyota called it an act of God issue and did not cover under warranty. She parked it in the same spot the wife and I had parked our cars for over 20 years without issue. That was the first I learned of the soy based insulation being used now.

Have fun with the wiring harness. I asked @flip for a price on a new headlight wiring harness, the thing was something crazy like $700 or more. Asked about a new tail light harness, to go to LED tail lights, similar price. For some reason, Ford likes to think these wires should all be expensive as hell.
