The new Bronco will be literal perfection... when it has a Bronco tailgate; If you're reading this FOMOCO, please bring this design feature back for the first available update.

I'll second that. Does the forum have an agreement? Yes? Okay meeting adjourned. Make it so.

Not sure I agree with this. The back tail gate on my 1996 and 1993 weigh a ton. The back handle always get bent... when some genius try's to open the tailgate without the window completely down. The weather stripping is a nightmare and water intrusion results in electrical failure and rust. Then Ford could not have made the wiring more complicated with lock outs, power going to both the rear switch and dash switch. Not to mention if you ever ride around with it half open you will blow out the glass. I like the simple easy to repair option. The rear doors in the excursion have always impressed me but I have never owned one to comment on durability.

I would love it, but with current leaks showing it having jeep/camper shell style flip up glass I find it unlikely. Would be dope though plus it's way to far along to change anything on the bronco

The excursion style is a possibility however the width of the bronco might be too narrow for that. I thing 26 years of engineering and electrical advances could solve most of those issues especially since it was actually designed in 78 and updated in 80, and pretty much left alone till 96.

My wife loves having the window down in our 96 for hauling ladders and loading stuff. The gate itself is heavy but thats because they dont make new tension rods and the ones i replace it with are already old and break. But with the new power gates that seems a no brainer, that and the computer will control the glass more. At 200,000 miles ours is functioning well. I did do a tune up on on the window regulator and replaced the glass because my brother in law broke it while fiddling with it when he owned it. But otherwise I think a aluminum gate with drain holes and maybe a clean out panel with newer style regulator also it will be narrower so lighter. I dont think itd be that bad.

Also for the swing out gate I did just think up a slider track spring loaded system that swing the tire out as the gate opened the first couple inches. So its all automatic like.

definitely would prefer a tailgate over the swing gate we're seeing, and a roll down rear window like on my 82 or my 4runner. But this time, make the glass go all the way in, like on 78/79 and not stick up 2 inches.... Im going to be cutting the glass on my 82 and installing a 2" strip in the top on the 82 so that the glass goes down all the way.

Tailgate would give you a place to sit while tending to fishing/hunting gear or as a workbench and extend cargo area for larger objects.

The glass on your 82 bronco doesnt go all the way down?
Its supposed too. Maybe time to do a rebuild on the mechanism. Four wheeler has a write up on it that they did a few years ago. Should find it on the website.

Yeahhh... that's why I asked them to change the design in the next model update |:-|

out of the 3 FSBs that I've owned on none of them has the rear glass gone down completely. always stopped at about 1" of glass still out of the tailgate...honestly thought that was normal at this point. once I get to working on the truck again I'll have to take it apart and look at it.

NOT SAFE. Several years ago 2 teens from Berthoud, Colorado lost their legs when changing a flat tire during a snow storm at night. The swing tailgates obscured the taillights and a driver rear ended the car while the teens were at the back. Both lost their legs below the knee. This double swing gate without supplemental taillights should be outlawed.

A tail gate also provides extended leg room if you it set up the back for a sleeping bag. Unfortunately, some of the spy photos show hinges for a swing gate.

I think those are the hinges for the spare tire holder. The glass swings up so the gate should go down not swing to the side.

I hope you are right. I guess we will find out 7/9.

I hope I'm right too. I'm also hoping someone makes a tailgate tent to cover it.

I hope the glass attaches to the top- just because that’s the only way the “half cab” conversion theory could work. I can dream...

Im all-in on the fold-down tailgate though. There are so many benefits to having that workspace/seating area/bed extension/etc.

I used an old pop up canopy (10x10) that got busted during a windstorm. Salvage enough unbent framing for 3 good sides. The fourth side I used 3/4inch conduit across the broken side - 2 piece splice - that rests on 2 plywood/foam cradles that sit on the vehicle roof, in this case a topper on my F150. Strapped down to the fender wells. It withstood a couple of windy Wyoming nights without any issues. I'm hoping it will fit on the new Bronco. I'm sure there are plenty of vendors looking at the Bronco as an opportunity for new products and a tent will be available. However, mine is cheaper.

Toyota has figured out the rear window, no reason Ford can’t. I would love the rear power window into a tailgate...about 3 weeks until we find out.

Regardless of how the tailgate opens, it looks like a cheap flip up rear-window. You can see it in the old factory leak.

Tailgate for the win no doubt. So functional. And hopefully those are fake “trick” hinges on the leaks to get us talking! I’d love if it were like my 95, window down!! 2D3B01FA-65FD-4F5E-AB08-DB5F3983838E.jpeg
