I've never understood placing ceramic coatings over x-pel. It is very redundant from what I have heard.
The wrap cannot bond to the ceramic coating, only to the finish itself. The coating may seem extraneous, but it does create a hydrophobic layer that makes cleaning easier. In theory, I won't have to wash my car as often. If you don't add the ceramic coating, it simply means you would have to wax it more often. I live in an apartment complex that doesn't facilitate (or approve of) car washing or vehicle maintenance of any kind, so it's ideal for me.
The wrap is a physical barrier that protects against brush scratches and rock strikes, so it seemed like a wise precaution to preserve the finish. I preferred this approach, as opposed to adding plastic cladding to the body. Oddly, in a way, it's a minimalist approach, which bodes well for me.
Chris here. I drive a 2-door Velocity Blue 2023 Ford Bronco Badlands with Sasquatch, Lux, a 2.7L V6, and an automatic transmission. It’s fun.
