Hi everyone,

For a 4 door - any ideas for storage either under rear passenger seats. Or perhaps off the back of the rear seats (in the cargo area). Or off the back of inside rear cargo door or anywhere else?

We have a dog and need to keep the rear cargo for our large dog. It is time to really figure out better storage. Thanks

What exactly are you trying to store?

I have a 8K hand winch, my folding saw, a device to cut brush, a hatchet, a blanket in a case, and a few other small items. I will tell you I lost about 50% of storage under the rear seat comparted to my 09 JK Unlimited. The height and depth are less in the Bronco. I'm looking at some rear window molles to make up the difference. We also have the dog in the back. I had a rear shelf in my TJ, but that limited your rear view and the dog could not stand up under it. It would be nice if they could make the rear seats flip up as in the F-150. That would provide a lot of additional space.

The usual - tools, survival/first aid, off road jack and jack stand, mallet, hatchet, machete, folding saw, recovery strap and gear, tie down straps, tire repair kit, MoRRflate hoses and compressor, folding shovel - that kind of stuff. I like the idea of molly bags, I have been checking them out.

Also, a stoplock steering wheel lock. For now I am jamming most of it under the rear seats (compressor behind passenger seat on floor) It would be nice if it was better organized and had other options. Recovery strap and gear and small amount of tools in the storage under the cargo area. I can see I am about at my limit and need to get creative as mentioned. The nice tool boxes that cover the entire cargo area are too high to put my dog in afterwards. Perhaps a small box to one side would work? I like the sound of a hand winch.

With the limited room in the 2dr I installed the JCR interior molly panels for things like my shovel, saw, ropes, hand saw, fire extinguisher and first aid kit. And room for more items as they come up. No pooch for now so a large box has my tools and recovery gear and who knows what else.
The panels we super easy to install and make a world of difference for me.

Was going to suggest Molle gear bags. The tailgate set that ford sells isn’t a bad option and there are a lot of aftermarket options that connect to the back of rear seat. That will probably work well for most of the tools. For first aid, I always recommend having your Ifak within arms reach if the driver seat. I use this attached to passenger headrest so I can grab and go if needed.

I’ve also seen some very creative DIY builds where people made their own version of Fords big tool box. You could use plywood and get some vehicle carpeting to cover it and make something that would have a footprint of your whole rear cargo area, but make it as low profile as possible so the pup still has head room.

For fire extinguisher, I got the Desert Does It under seat mount and one of those nifty extinguishers that look like a flare. Saves a bunch of room.

I’m also using a couple small tool bags and some straps connected to my roll bar pillars in the back.

I can try to snap some photos of what I have going tomorrow

You are talking MIC hardtop, right?

ThorsLightning setup has a molle cage that mounts over the right rear wheel well for the NAPA 2-cylinder compressor--The MoreFlate is a variant of that; I suggest a hardwire permanent install. And my Thors gearbag (identical to the MoreFlate) wedges in nicely between the rollover pillar and the window. They also sell a complete bundle of compressor, cage ("the Refuge"), hard wiring, hoses and adapters for about $650, less than an ARB compressor alone.

Lots of aftermarket molle racks, pull-out bins, and the Bronco6G site has threads on people's home-designs. I got the Ford/Tuffy pull-out drawer, but you lose ten inches of vertical space, which would cramp a large dog. Maybe a compressible tool roll to go under the rear seats, and a roof rack with maybe a cargo box up there? I've worked out a system on the TrailRax to attach my shovel, saw, recovery boards (etc) for off-roading, and pull them off simply and quickly when I return to daily drive.

Be prepared: you're on an accessorizing adventure here, and it gets awfully expensive awfully fast.

You could always do a rear seat delete and either build or purchase a pre-made system that adds storatge below deck. But that means you have no back seat. Take a look at Goose Gear‘s options.

I really like what I have read and my eyes are opening and pleased with the options. I will reply in more detail to posts when I have more time. Thanks!

There's also exterior options with storage above/around the 5th tire on the gate. Maybe not long-term storage but certainly for a trip out!

If rear seat removal is and option... the world is your playground... build it out however you'd like.... total seat removal.

If not, maybe remove driver side rear seat for partial removal. Leaving one passenger rear seat. But 60% open floor behind driver. Other than that I'm of no help.

I was going to comment on each but I though it easier to do on big thank you. I like a lot of the solutions and I am making some notes and plan to get some of the items mentioned here. It is great to be able to ask a question and get a lot of real good answers. Thank you. There is a lot more storage once you get some good ideas like above. I will put them in "what did you do to your Bronco today" once I get going.

I am preparing for the cost. I can see if you do it right it gets costly quickly. Good thing I am well on my way with things. A few brackets (compressor), perhaps a do it yourself storage as mentioned, strapping a few things and it will be taking shape. Removing a seat or seats sounds great but I think we will probably want them. I never even thought about that.

Thanks again, my eyes are open and some of my storage issues have been sorted. Just need to fork out the cash and get er done.
