Top 5 Accessories that ALL Bronco owners should have

I'll admit I've a lot of time so far this holiday season shopping for Bronco parts, and in the process I've watched multiple "must have accessories" videos. Most of them missed what I would consider to be the actual "must-have" items. So I decided to make my own video on the topic.

THE LIST

Number 1 — User Manual

Number 2 — Third Key Fob

  • Part No. M2DZ-15K601-{x}

The "{x}" will vary based on your exact vehicle configuration. To find the actual part number head on over to https://parts.ford.com, plug in your VIN, and search for the part number 15K601. The correct key fob should pop right up.

Screenshot 2023-11-29 at 23.28.25.jpg

Those key fobs will come without the key blank. You obviously don't need the physical key to operate the Bronco, BUT if you want one they (and aftermarket equivalents) are readily available online. (From what I've been told Ford will only sell physical key blanks to licensed locksmiths.)

  • Ford Part No 164-R8168

A quick Google search should pop up with multiple options.

Number 3 — Door Storage

There are TONS of options for this one. And if you have one you really like, I encourage you to post it below... mostly because I'm thinking about changing mine. 😉

Number 4 — Torx Kit

Bronco has Torx, a lot of Torx. And a ton of Torx Plus too. The tool kit included with the Bronco only includes a fraction of what you actually need to work on your Bronco.

The kit I have is available here. Not sure if I would recommend it though, as it is showing signs of rust. So if anyone has any solid alternatives, post 'em!

Number 5 — Floor Mats and Mud Flaps

Use your FordPass points for these!!

I recently picked up this Torx Plus set. Doesn't have as many bits, but I already had quite a few already. I've had a different set of Lisle Torx (not Plus) bits for close to 10 years now, and they're still in fantastic shape. A bit pricier than some of the other sets out there, but they'll likely outlive me.

Thank you for another informative & entertaining video!! Good suggestions. Although except for a few torque specs, I haven't found Ford's Bronco manual all that helpful. Your & others' YouTube vids are MUCH better!!

Oh, Project Farm fan here too.

Thinking I’m going to bite the bullet and get the dv8 door storage (front only), hoping they really will hold a water bottle.

Have a 12 piece Torxplus set, but the 60 piece is on sale so going to grab it

Thanks for your insights

A Torx kit is the only one out of that list that I've felt is needed for me personally.

If Fords still need 2 fobs present to DIY program a 3rd then #2 is good insurance against a large bill in the future. Although I think Forscan can work around that.

Which brings me to 2 other must haves, Forscan and a spare tie rod.

Ford upgraded PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System, aka: SecuriLock) around the 2013-2015 model year, and now requires a uniquely generated timed code in order to program the keys. That code is only available from a ETIS login (dealership login) or a licensed locksmith via the NASTF system. Forscan can actually still do the programming step, but without that uniquely generated code (called an "incode") you're outta luck.

BUT, Forscan is awesome regardless, and I have it on a list for another video I'm working on. Didn't have spare tie rods on the list, but that's actually a really good one. Mmmm.... now wondering if I should switch up my list a bit.

For a torx kit 60 piece seems like overkill. Do you really need more the “Bronco bolt” kit that comes with the tool kit Ford includes?

The 60-piece kit is 100% overkill for the Bronco, and as I mentioned... I don't know if I would recommend it given the rusting issues I am having with it. For me, I own a few other things that require Security Torx, and a lawnmower that requires external Torx, so it made sense to buy the master set, but that's not necessary for the Bronco.

The toolkit that comes with the Bronco includes the necessary pieces to to remove the hard top, the doors, and most of the interior/exterior Bronco bolts. So if that's all you are going to do, then you don't need anything else. If you want to actually work on your vehicle, then you will need the set, as the toolkit doesn't cover everything. Most of the common accessory points are Torx Plus, but there are also standard Torx as well in various spots. Therefore you will need both a Torx set and a Torx Plus set to cover all of the bases.

Some options for you below. I should note that mechanics toolkits often come with the standard Torx sizes you need, so if you have one of those already, you may want to check before you buy. It is VERY rare for toolkits to come with Torx Plus though, so you will definitely have to buy that.

Also for those who haven't gotten their Bronco yet... the Bronco toolkit contains:

  • 10mm socket - Intended to be used to remove the roof rack on the hard top.
  • 13mm socket - Intended to be used to remove the doors and soft top.
  • Torx Plus 30 - Intended for the interior "Bronco bolts" that hold on the grab handles. Also works on a handful of exterior bolts (but not the bolts on the bumper).
  • Torx Plus 50 - Intended to be used to remove the hard top.
  • Locator pin - Helps with door reinstallation
  • 1/4" ratchet

Personally, I also added a 15mm socket to my Bronco toolkit, since that is the necessary size to remove the skid plates. (If I had the HD modular bumper I'd also add a Torx Plus 40, but I don't.) That kit I carry in my Bronco 24/7/365.

I also have a much larger toolkit that I have for off-roading, camping, etc. But that doesn't travel in the Bronco with me every single day.

Rusty and cheaply made tools that are prone to failure are dangerous. Quality tools are expensive and I would suggest Wera. If you haven’t checked them out, I highly recommend - but, be careful, they have some really awesome stuff that you will “NEED”. Here are a couple of options to explore related to torx bits::

Wera 073404 6 Piece Professional Torx TX10-TX40 Mini Bit Check,5073404001https://a.co/d/cAigyaG

WERA 05003185001 8767 B TORX® HF 1 Zyklop bit Socket Set with Holding Function, 3/8" Drive, 6 Pieces https://a.co/d/23gasMt

Wera 056490 Tool-Check Plus Bit Ratchet Set with Sockets - Metric https://a.co/d/a7JMAHc

^ this is a great, everyday mini tool kit that will fit inside the Bronco tool bag

Sorry for the temptation but, you will be thanking me…

Do they make any Torx Plus stuff that you are aware of?? I did a quick check on Amazon and found nothing.

I have lots of Wera tools that I use for my precision electronics work, and they are fantastic. So if they have a kit for Torx Plus I likely will buy it.

They make regular Torx sockets but don’t have TP sockets. I have a bunch of their 1/4 drive TP bits. Here is their article with details —> https://products.wera.de/en/bits_ho..._for_torx_plus_screws_867_4_ip_torx_plus.html
