I really like the hidden winch option from rough country but before I ordered it I looked at the instruction book because it mentions "minor" trimming. Trimming the diff mount I am not too concerned with but removing the frame extensions has me a bit concerned. Although those frame extensions look like assembly support blocks. Does somebody know If my assumption is correct in that those extensions were only used in the assembly process.

I’m actually more concerned with trimming the diff. mount.
The frame extensions are clearly vestigial. But, the diff. mount wraps around the frame member, which gives it more shear strength. I suspect it’s no big deal to trim that wrap-around, but I’m a little worried that it might lead to something shifting.

That's a terrible idea, when do we start?

I have to say that this is one of the reasons I don't want to go with this "hidden" mount. That along with the fact that it's GOT to negatively effect the approach angle.

I had looked at this as well, and came to the conclusion it’s only going to create hidden problems.

I'm inclined to agree, frame and structural trimming, no thanks. Sure some of it might be just assembly features, but all that steel costs money, and if it didn't need to be there, Ford wouldn't have paid for it.
