Let’s take a closer look at those rock rails, shall we? These are from a pre-production 4-Door Badlands.

Gotta say, I'm not as excited about these as I was before. This little edge sticking down is going to catch on the rocks. They'll work fine for bash protection when you fall down onto a rock, but they'll hang you up a bit when trying to slide over an edge. Maybe we can get kevinsoffroad.com to make some rock sliders like their zj and wj product.

I had the same thought. I think there’s still going to be plenty of room for aftermarket sliders.

I did a little more digging a kevinsoffroad uses protofab4x4.com for their Ford stuff. They have some awesome FSB bumpers. We'll have to see if they make sliders for the new one.

I wonder if that’s the noise deadening as well...

I feel so inferior. I was thinking that was pretty awesome to have body protection when I screw up and drop off something I really didn’t mean to. I have a lot to learn! Thanks for the insight.

If I was rock crawling, I would put a nice bead of weld all around that bracket and polish it so it was almost like a smooth ramp. Less likely to hang up and a stronger bond.

If you still get hung up, replace them.

If course this is the cheap ass way of doing it as I hate spending money on something until I need too.

I think the running theme for Bronco features and options like this will be that these are great options to have straight from the factory and are great for most people. However, most things will still have room for further optimization in aftermarket parts.

Good point, and the reason I keep going back to Base with no options or packages. I'll save my Sasquatch, rock rail, and bumper/bash plate money and put it towards aftermarket solutions. Sorry to rain on your parade in this thread, but I'm glad you posted those pics.

Well also, I think you're planning on using the Bronco as a working vehicle, right? There's a difference in use cases between "I'm going to need this thing to go anywhere on any given day," and, "I need this to get down a few rough trails a few times a year."

Yes, it will be my work truck M-F with little need for serious off-road capability, but weekends it will be my toy for desert camping, off-roading, and trips to Moab.

I will pull mine off and have them welded up.

At least the body mounts are close by for the aftermarket ones to a attach to. They do look a little more beefy than the Rubicon's, but I'm not sure I trust them as a pivot on a rock.

How strong can those L brackets be? Gotta figure something out with a side step. Wife is a tiny thing, 5'1" and will definitely need help getting in the badland. Don't like the full running boards, would rather a single tube step attached to the rock rail or an automatic step. Never had one before. Any recommendations for after market rock sliders that have the tube step off the side?

My wife was in the same boat when she bought her jeep. I found this type and the fit the bill of not being an official side step but also function as on.

I dig it. Very very close to what I am looking for, for a 2 door. Adding to my bookmarks to see what they come up with for the bronco

Just park so that the raised curb or a boulder is right there by the door. Problem solved at no additional cost!

Duly noted. Might have to just always have a step stool in the back as well.
