Question for Surfers: Tailgate Pad? Topless Rack?

Hi!
Anyone tried any generic tailgate pad that would normally go on a pickup truck?

How about any pads once the (soft) top is off? I know Hitchmount racks as a great rack for canoes and boards, but for those lazier days when you just want to toss it in the back and fold the seats... And yes, I can always use a towel, but this is about toys, accessories...

I just bought a Dakine tailgate pad and it is perfect for the rear bar. I actually bought both black and camo by accident

Also bought round pads and aero pads for front windshield header.

Not sure if the aero pads will work with just pressure of the board, or the round with strap through it.

Maybe I'll try the extra tailgate pad on the windshield. the "flaps" aren't that long - 4-5", so might protect windshield soft top seal.

Anyone tried these products out yet that can provide an update? 2dr Bronco with hard top off most of the time. Was thinking the tailgate pad might be the way to go secure a board level across the windshield and rollbar? Pics would be great, thanks.
