Looking for real world experience with the DV8 Spare Tire Guard/Accessory Mount. Looks like it would provide some support for the tailgate & you can lock the spare. Downsides I see: a SAS tire requires a 1.5 inch spacer which would move the tire out away from the tailgate and the product weighs 50 pounds. Looks cool...What are you guys thoughts?

Understand the concern, but this option seems way overbuilt. We installed Rough Country's steel plate that's simple, less than 20lbs and very robust at ~1/10 the $ cost.

Cheers

I'm running the RC reinforcement and it's already seeing some surface rust in less than a year. The bolts are also rusting and I've planned to coat the bolts and plate in Van Sickle matte black farm implement paint. I don't live in the rust belt and we've only had one week of snowy weather with salt added to the streets. We also keep the Bronco extremely clean so this is kind of a bummer.

That's the problem with the cheap Chinese stuff. Sometimes, it's OK, sometimes it's not. You pay's your money and you rolls the dice. 😎

LOL - So I'm lucky!? Must be, my Mac, MacBook Pro, iPhone, many tools, air compressors, apparel, footwear, household & pharma products, etc, etc seem fine too..

I'm not saying everything that's made is China is garbage. Like you said, all my Apple Products are made in China and the quality is good. I was referring to specifically "cheap" Chinese stuff. I'm glad you've had good luck with RC. However, RC has a bad reputation in regards to quality in general, and a quick Google search will locate a lot of complaints about the quality of the rear tire reinforcement plate in particular. In general, I think that you get what you pay for with a lot of parts. It's inexpensive for a reason, not just because everyone else is ripping you off.

Sorry you're having rust issue with your RC tailgate reinforcement, and agree, your solution should work.

As mentioned, there are several rust examples on the internet. I see, several specific b6g mentions on RC tailgate plates for Jeeps from years ago. Here's a more recent b6g pic from '22 on a Bronco RC plate:

I'll admit that if mine came with this, I may have missed this sorta blemish. Without removing the spare tire, I just rechecked our tailgate and see no visible rust, bolts look clear, it's firmly attached and doesn't rattle.

We live in a very snowy foothill Colorado location with lots of road salt applied as de-iciing treatments. Here're pics of road salt this morning near our driveway:

Obviously, our snow plow guy got carried away with his spreader here, but you get the idea - Yeah, we have road salts here.

Our '23 Bronco does have some rust. LOL here's it's rear drive shaft - Seems to be Ford's idea for cathodic protection..

Saw a 2 door Bronco with a Monkey Pack at Moab Off-Roadeo. Looks pretty trick too. Owner was our BOR trial instructor, she really liked this kit. It has some reinforcement, but I couldn't see how robust. Here's a pic and their website for ya:

We were going to build our own but installed the Anvil Offroad tailgate support which slightly raises and spaces out the spare tire. We have wheeled it hard and absolutely love it so we decided to sell them and focus on developing different parts.
