Altimeter Recomendation?

Anyone have a dash rail mountable Altimeter they can recommend. When I googled around, all I found looked like the old inclinometers you would get from the JC Whitney catalog, or like a full-on garmin GPS set up (which I also dont need). I know I can get a phone app, or even the data of Waze or something, but I dont want to futz around with the phone while I'm out driving. Anyone got any recommendations?

I imagine the Bronco knows how high up it is so it can adjust the ignition timing and all that- Would have been cool if mama Ford had included this in the instrumentation.

I'm asking because I don't know, not because I think you're wrong. But, are you sure it doesn't show the altitude on the map pages? It seems pretty basic not to be there.

I dont think it does, or at least I cant find the settings for this. The trail app will give you contour lines with elevation markings, but if Im looking at that, I might as well have a paper map and a compass.

Thats a really cool set up. Tons of Data available. If I was running a tune or something, I would be all over this. Thanks for posting.

If you have an iPhone the compass app has elevation, though maybe not as accurate as you want

Its probably more accurate than an air-pressure based altimeter. But really anything within a couple hundred feet is okay. Just want another nav data point and because im a big nerd whos into these kinda things. :geek:

We relied on air pressure altimeters for years in aircraft. But you have to set them prior to take off.
You can check altimeters a couple ways. One go to an airport, set it to the published elevation. Some airports have it painted on the side of a building.
The other way us to find a benchmark , they are shown on topographical maps.

Why not just get an inexpensive Garmin GPS. Also give you additional GPS tracking. Let you get into some of the Nerdy stuff you mentioned. :0) I run one in my Jeep. It has the onboard GPS and I run the garmin. GAIA has elevation on your phone. I use it off road as well.

You might want a small weather station. These can display corrected altitude with barometric input.

MAL, I hope that new altimeter has a Kollsmen Window and you have a radio to get the latest baro setting.😜 Remember, you need one at least 100nm from your current location. Of course then.....will your Bronco need ADS-B? 😱

Otherwise, I would recommend almost any Garmin GPS and have it display the elevation. 💁

OHHHHHHH........you're talking about ignition timing?! Thats what turbo's are for!! 😉

Thanks friends. Lots of good recommendations here. Probably be an app based solution for now, but I sure like that banks gauge. Maybe after I talk myself into an intercooler…

I’d like to know my elevation at a glance, too. I was curious to know what it was during a recent trip from western Washington to a Bronco meetup in the south central part of the state. Lots of elevation changes during that trip, and only saw a couple of roadside markers. Going to look into this more closely. Thanks for giving me ideas, folks!
Chris here. I drive a 2-door Velocity Blue 2023 Ford Bronco Badlands with Sasquatch, Lux, a 2.7L V6, and an automatic transmission. It’s fun.

iOS app "my altitude" is nice. It has a camera that embeds altitude information into pictures. Here is one of my pictures I took during a trip to Grand Tetons.
