Unless they're really muddy, mine ride in the back seat. The older one looks unhappy and because my wife took shotgun.

Very cute. We used to allow our dogs to ride loose and still do to run to grab a coffee. A good friend of ours lost both her dogs when they where rear ended and we now only use crates on most drives.

I know this is an older post, I just did not want to start a new one because the title says it all.
I have two working line German Shepherds and for their safety and mine, my dogs travel in separate crates. The impact crates in the first post I could not find my solution on their site. I do have one of the folding impact crates and it is an awesome crate.
I use ruffland crates. They tie down easy etc.
My crates are set up for cooling them, water etc. We also carry several treats, toys and training gear.
Just riding in the vehicle is not an option and I know a lot of people do this, however If you were to go to a dog sport event, trust me, you do not want a high drive, excited dog loose in the back of your vehicle when he hears other dogs competing or working. That would be the end of your vehicle.

In my Expedition, two crates is an easy situation. In my F350 crew cab only one fits in the back seat.
in my 2 door bronco, I can fit one ruffland, but not two. Gunner crates are wider so they will not work.

So my question is. Has anybody come up with a crate situation for two large dogs in a 2 door?
I am searching for a custom one and I wanted to see if the nation has already found a solution. I can see either a drawer for gear under it so it levels it out too.

I can‘t help you on large dogs as mine are Jacks. They always ride in their crates and they are perfect in them. We went to the Jack R Nationals in September and they were calm until I brought them out. I can do long trips with them crated. I had my backseats removed and Goose Flooring system installed and then had the Ford / Tuffy Drawer for a four door installed into my 2 door. Gives me storage and allows them to see out. They are happy and I am happy.🐾🐾

Thank you.
A drawer that is the 4" height and shallow for the two door with seats in, was a starting point for me. I can see removing the rear seats and then put in the tuffy drawer. then build on top of that.
Standard quality crates are so close. The speakers interfere with a straight slide in and my rufflands are about two inches too wide or an inch each.

Here are some pics….

Thank you... I like your set up. My crates are a bit bigger...lol. Its the speakers and curve of the bar that will make a custom necessary I think.
The drawer there is a great idea.

Have a Gunner kennel for my lab, it's too big for the back of the Bronco since I installed the drawers

I have done lots of measuring and my new year project is to make a wooden template of the crate I need. I found a fabricator that may be able to build it. If I make the template it will reduce the cost.
We are trying to plan ahead on this thing so we can also carry some necessary off road gear.
It's not the first custom crate I made. My last one was a supersized folding for the back of my superduty. To maximize the space, it had to fold up to put it in the back and then unfold in the rear of the truck. It held two Germán shepherd that got along.

I went with Ford accessories dog create. My English bulldog loves it and easy to transport and has ties down nicely. Fits real nice in the cargo area.

The weekend was used making a template crate out of wood. Lots of fittings. The challenges are the rear speakers and the rear door strikers. They intrude just enough that either the crate is narrower or it has to be able to slide in at a slight angle.

Also I wanted to see how to make other stuff work around it. My compressor, recovery gear, dog gear etc. I still need to figure out how to do all this and have a cooler or a way to store cold drinks.
Sloping the rear allows for some room behind the front row seats for a coat or such.

The ruffLand in the photo is what my buddy rides in normalcy. And that crate will fit in the 2 door with the seats folded down.

Crate update, for anyone thinking of building one.

More thinking and designing. Had to make some changes to the sizing because of those dang door strikers.

I wanted to make sure I had an escape hatch, so if the vehicle was rear ended or the rear tailgate would not open, I could get them out the front. I know people who have needed this.

I changed some venting ideas. I will make the top solid because there is enough clearance once its in for storage between the top of the crate and the roof.

The angles that allow it to slide past the speakers, will make recovery gear storage available from the front. The angled sides will also be vented.

I have come up with a way to secure it using the stock rear tie downs. There will be a pedestal for a flat surface while keeping the rear seats folded down. I will also have usable storage. The leveling pedestal will be its own piece, so the crate can fit multiple vehicles of mine.

I plan on using Ruffland crate doors on it front and rear. Those are the doors on my currant crates.

I have all the measurements written on it. Next it goes to the fabricator.

While my custom 2 dog crate is being built, I wanted to do a run and take my buddy. Turns out a RuffLand XL crate, with the side door option, fit nicely sideways in my 2 door.
I had a different RuffLand XL in long way and while it worked, it wasn't as good for gear.
