Been lurking a while... just got my Bronco a few days ago. Want to install ditch lights by the mirrors - looking for opinions and advice.

What I've done -
  1. Ordered and unboxed Rough Country black Series 2-inch Square Cree LED Lights.
  2. Noticed that they come with a helluva lotta wires - including a switch which is not needed due the fact that I have auxiliary switches.
  3. It looks like the kit I bought comes with a 40 amp relay - so that means this kit has to go to the battery (which kind of defeats the purpose of an aux switch for a couple dinky lights).
  4. Read several threads and got confused.
So...
  1. What lights are you happy with?
  2. What color do you prefer and why?
  3. Do all aux lights need a direct battery connection, or are there some that can be powered directly through the aux switch circuits?
Anyway - I stalled and can return these lights if needed. Any advice or experience appreciated.

This should be fairly straightforward.

Throw out the wiring harness that came with the lights or disassemble it and harvest the wires for the following set up:

Assuming each light has a black & red wire attached do the following:

Black wire is the ground. You can either wire them together and find a suitable grounding point under the hood or ground them individually.

Red wire is the load so these 2 wires need to be connected together and spliced into the corresponding aux wire that you want to control the lights.

Good luck!

I was hoping it was that simple. The harness with the lights came with a 30 amp fuse and a 40 amp relay. My electrical knowledge is limited, but I know enough to raise a caution flag. According to on-screen owner's manual, only the yellow wire is switched at 30 amps (not 40).

So... while I could install these, I could also return them. Still interested in more input regarding what others like for ditch lights - especially if they would run on one of the 10 amp fused circuits that seem to terminate under the hood near the drivers' mirror.

Don’t second guess yourself - it is that easy!

Check out the specs on the lights - I believe they are less than 60 watts each so that’s max 5 amps each…

I have the 3” LED ditch lights from ZroadZ. Excellent kit. The pods have a connector on them, so you want to keep that part of the wiring harness. As Bschurr said above, get rid of the relay and switch on the harness.

You only need to use a 10amp auxiliary switch, I used number 3 on mine which is the violet/green wire. Hook the red wires to the violet/green and ground the black wires. You have ditch lights. Good luck.

I picked up some cheap $90 harbor freight lights cause I wasn’t sure I’d like em up there on the cowl. They do work pretty well, but whistle a bit on the highway.

install was as easy as everyone is saying, and I’ve kept em on since our night drive on fins n things in April…
