Soft Top Roof Rack

Sep 09, 2022

We just made it to Buena Vista Colorado from NY. We've stopped at the Bronco Super Celebration West on our way to Hermosa Beach.
We are testing out our new designs for our "Light Weight Recreational Sport Racks".

A roof rack specifically designed for the G6 4 door soft top and a 5th wheel mounted rack in its bike configuration. All tests successful!

That is pretty cool, I love that you can have the top fully open and still have this installed. Just out of curiosity, can it still be there with the top fully removed?

Hi
It attaches to the existing bolt holes used by the hard top and 2 bolt holes that hold the rear fenders. It should work well without any top.

Bumped in to 22Winty at Ace Hardware in BV yesterday. I instantly noticed the rack above his soft top Bronco and had to ask about it. It seems really robust and not bad looking. The owner (of the Bronco and 22 Winty) seemed very entrepreneurial and really wants to do the right thing for the Bronco community. I hope this works out for him…and us.

The rear door opens without issue, however you cannot lift the terribly designed rear bar that crosses the opening if is the rear window is in place.
The same bar that when used often is ruining my side windows when lifted. I've already had to have the rear window replaced under warrantee for glue and rivets giving out. The new window was an improved design, no factory used super glue

I wish they had reverse engineered Best Top or Jeeps removable bar that can be flipped out of the way onto the roof. Lifting the Bronco bar, wrinkling the already wavy side windows to gain barely any more access is a major design flaw. Hopefully they will learn and correct this issue.

I really like the design of the soft top I'm glad I don't have to un zip/velcro just to get in the back

I often need to load larger objects for work. It’s not bad just not great. I’ve had it over a year 18k miles. I bet the side windows won’t work well in another year. I’ve already replaced the rear one Glue failed. The new one is better not glued. . But the windows are a forced to fit and I do it many times a week.
I don’t necessarily like zippers and the bronco does have Velcro.
I’m not planing to replace it yet but check out the newer bestop no zippers and maybe no Velcro. Just a similar way of fitting like the bronco except they put the corner pillars on the side windows so all 3 windows can be stowed in the trunk nicely… and the bar across the door opening flips up out of the way.
So I could fit my boxes.

The ford rear window has the pillars and will not fit in the trunck it’s too wide. It’s forced even with the pillars flipped onto itself.
Or it needs to be left behind which is what I usually do

…..and the side windows don’t have the horrible waves as my bronco does. It looks wrong but it’s there to accommodate having to wrinkle when the rear bar is lifted…… I’m sure they will improve on this. Just first run rushed engineering from a 100 year old company who should know better.
They did well but missed on a lot.
The bar that crosses the rear door opening should be removable. Pushing it up to gain 7” isn’t really helpful

I would like to say its been a great ride across the US and it tackled the Mosquito Trail and Pikes Peak with ease. Smooth as can be on the hiways

The soft top did flap a bunch in Kansas when trucks would pass at 80mph. But it was the first time since I got it so I’m not too upset.

just an opinion.
