Best Intercooler Whipple vs. cp-e vs. Mishimoto?

Looking for my next project to compliment the stage I mods. Anyone have any thoughts on these intercoolers, and the best results for cooling those Turbos? Also, will these all fit with shutters?

I messaged with Whipple recently...here's what I learned - you can see 10-15+hp gain from just their intercooler and filter but the real advantage is having more constant power once the intercooler is installed, so they recommend the tune alongside it. As manifold charge temperatures increase due to the factory intercooler core being heat soaked, the PCM will reduce boost and ignition timing to a safer level. With Whipple's intercooler, there is far less heat soak keeping the manifold charge temps cooler and for a longer period of time. This will produce that more constant power pull to pull mentioned above. Couple that with a higher flow air filter, and you will notice a difference in performance in real world conditions. the Bronco tunes are intended to run a minimum of 91 octane. If 87 or 89 octane must be used, then the stock tune should be used with that. Once you load the tune, you cannot go back to stock without having a Ford dealership flash the PCM back to stock. You can also use just the intercooler and filter which does not require tuning, and will still deliver that 10-15+ HP gain and likely mpg savings. It is intended to fit in the stock location once the shutters are removed. It does sit lower, but still clears the stock bash plate. I looked into whether this would fit above the rough country hidden winch and, unfortunately I think the answer is no.

Thanks for the info!!! Still on the fence concerning the Ford Tune, but still feel the Intercooler will help with K&N Cold Air Intake. I didn't know the Whipple required the removal of the shutters???? I believe the Mishimoto and cp-e don't require removal, but I'm kinda unclear what the shutters actually accomplish. Don't they restrict air flow to Intercooler?

I installed the tune myself on my laptop. That way I can go back to stock any time. I usually go back to stock if my Bronco is going to the dealer or any shop for service.

I have the Ford performance tune on my bronco and it was pretty noticeable on the first drive. So far it’s been pretty reliable.

I am interested in the Ford tune. I have a 2.3 as that is what my dealer friend had in stock. Just got the truck yesterday and I have been looking into the Ford tune the last couple of weeks. Not a lot of research just enough to know it seems pretty good. I will be running premium gas anyway so we will see. It is good to read other experience. It seems I will probably go that route one day. The 2.7 seems to benefit more from what I initially read.

I have the 2.3 and it’s been a little bump over stock. I run 93 in it and I didn’t lose any gas mileage or anything.

Right on thanks. Good to know. A bump is a bump...Rare to get 93 where we are. 91 is available. Are you glad you did the tune?

The active grille shutter is used to reduce aerodynamic drag while the vehicle is moving. It is also used to provide faster heat delivery to the vehicle cabin if you really wanna get technical haha

Yeah I’m happy with it so far. I’m curious to see how it does with a few more upgrades added. But yeah I don’t have any complaints and it also deactivated my stop start so that was one less button to push haha

I am putting in a auto start stop eliminator tomorrow. One less button to push for sure. I read about that and I already had the start stop elim. ready to go. I appreciate your experience it is good to know you are happy with it. It seems I will get it done sometime soon. At least for now I won't get mad because I forgot to deactivate my start stop..lol

Yeah start/stop with a stick was weird. If anyone winds up doing the intercooler I’m curious to see what one they go with

I went with CP-E, only because Mishimoto is on back order, otherwise I'd keep it the same as the charge pipes

Hopefully the shop next door is free end of the week, I'll get that, charge pipes, intake, coolant expansion tank and clutch spring installed soon

Well worth it, only time I have issues is the dead of winter, otherwise forget I even have it installed

Well worth the $750, especially the rev matching. Even if ya don't get any further gains with the added parts, I don't regret it, its a place holder tune like my Revo tune was on my A4 before my JHM Tune

anyone know whether a hidden winch would fit under the mishimoto or CP-E?

So far, the install of the Sprint Booster, Performance Blow Off Valve and the K&N Cold Air Intake box and pipes have really made a difference in the 2.7L. I have a two door with the tire delete, so the weight is substantially lighter. Not sure I need the tune, but I will say the pedal is definitely responsive with current Sprint Booster setting. I'm running in normal mode and so far, I'm getting used to feathering thru the turbo lag. The ponies in this thing really want to ride. 😁 Should get a little wilder after intercooler and MagnaFlow Overland exhaust install.

Get the tune, AND a downpipe instead of a Magnaflow, that's where the real power is.

Tune+Sprint Booster is a PB&J combo, the one two punch. I just wanna save up for my rock light and starliner install, otherwise I'd get a sprint booster as well
