Does anyone know if there will be any room under the hood for a second battery? I know there is a way to do it on the new Wrangler. It's not easy but it can be done. They shoe-horned it under the fuse box if I remember correctly.

There was some discussion about it a while ago, but from what I remember there's nothing definitive out there yet, and no one has had a chance to really spend time exploring available spaces under the hood and checking for a fit.

I'm looking to add an additional battery as well so it will be nice when we can get our hands on them and figure out a spot for it. I'd like my winch and fridge to be on the spare battery

Yeah my grms would be good on there as well. I've been looking into the redarc systems for dual battery setups

How are you charging your additional battery, and what is the purpose of adding an additional battery, specifically? What problem does the second battery solve?

Typically you buy a kit that has the components to tie into the vehicle's charging system. The purpose of the second battery is to use it to power your accessories such as a fridge or radios. That way if you run the battery down you can still start the vehicle.

Using a winch you can drain battery to the point it won't start the vehicle, a second battery is used for the winch while the main battery is used for starting.

I get all that. I've got an alternator, solar panel(s), a starting battery and two house batteries in my truck/camper combo. So, I get the purpose of batteries. I guess I just wasn't specific enough.

What, specifically, will you do with your Bronco that your stock battery is not capable of doing for you, that the second battery will, in amp/hr, etc. What is the charging and discharging rates and reserve you think you'll be dealing with or need, that the first battery is incapable of, or that the second battery will provide?

We know you can run a radio with one battery, even a winch. We know you can plug in a battery powered fridge to keep drinks cold. Those things are no-brainers while the vehicle is running. So, at what point does the stock battery not do what you need (a-h, reserve), and the second battery provides that additional amount of power? How many A-H are you anticipating to be necessary; what rate is your alternator providing power during that task (winch, fridge, etc.), and what reserve is necessary to provide the power when the vehicle isn't currently providing amperage (not running the alternator)?

I think most folks with the dual battery setup use the stock battery as the “starter” and essentially use the secondary for as much as they can... lights, fridges, phones... you name it. Lol

They’ve typically got an isolator to prevent the “starter” from draining, so once their power goes out they can still fire up the vehicle.

It’s just a worry free electrical setup.
