Hello drivers,
Has anyone bypassed the tailgate safety switch using a jumper to “short” it?
I just bought an 89 Bronco and couldn’t get my dashboard button or the tailgate key (lock cylinder arm) to move the rear window. So I jumped the motor and accessed the wiring harness. I inserted a 14ga solid wire into the safety switch connector and it solved the problem for both actuators! Unfortunately, it’s not holding well enough - probably because of the connector’s age - so I’m curious if I can just cut it and twist the wires together for the same result. Seems logical but thought I’d ask before I start hacking off pieces.
Before you ask, the tailgate latch assy is all beat up but it’s plenty secure. Just not to the satisfaction of this switch.
