Ford has confirmed to Bronco Nation that the digital temperature display, available on some trims and packages, would be returning to the HVAC knobs for 2023 Broncos. The feature disappeared at the beginning of 2022 and the set temperature was moved to the top of the Infotainment screen, a finding order holders called “tragic.”

Chip Trouble

Chip issues have plagued Bronco production for some time. In December of 2021, Ford CEO Jim Farley said he believed the chip shortage would ease in 2023. However, by February, built Broncos were filling lots in Michigan to the point where Ford needed to address the backlog, stating the global chip shortages were preventing a few thousand Broncos from being shipped.

While Ford is still working through supply issues –– CFO John Lawler expects the shortage of some chips to continue through 2023 –– apparently enough has improved for the motor company to add the temp display back to dials for Broncos.

Back for 2023

A rumor surfaced yesterday on Bronco6G that 23MY Broncos were being produced with the HVAC readout again. BN member @Mal brought the topic over to our forum for a fact-check, and Bronco Nation reached out to Ford for comment. Brand Manager Matt Winter obliged.

“I will confirm that the temp readout in the dial is back for 23MY,” he said.

While this is disappointing news for 2022 Bronco owners who want it, comments have centered around trading dials and using them as a benchmark in distinguishing model years.

“Are there any knobs on the market with higher resale value than my ‘21 LCD knobs? I'll swap to plastic knobs for a quick $5k,” joked Gene Dios, and Chris Byrne wondered if 2022 Broncos just became more rare: “Will the Broncos that DIDN'T have temps on the dials become ultra-collectible?”

“Thirty years from now, old men discussing how you can tell the difference between a 21-22-23 Broncos at the Bronco shows ...” finished WildRaptor2023.
