Broncoless… for now

Sep 05, 2024

As I’ve mentioned on another post, among other issues, I’ve been having a lot of trouble with my screen, CarPlay, radio, etc. I’ve had my APIM (Sync module) replaced twice already and the third one is now acting up.

This is so disappointing, I can’t even describe the feeling. I was one of those that ordered the Bronco just the way I wanted it, reordered twice as the next years models rolled around, got really excited when the “in production” and “built” emails came from Ford, got the rail car number and stalked it across the country, and drove by the rail yard to try and sneak a peek before it was delivered to the dealer. All the while I was on this site, excitedly sharing our adventures with many of you.

Sadly, I’m to the point where I’m actually considering the lemon law as my time for that is running out (2 years or 24,000 miles). I really want to keep it, I just don’t want to be stuck with something that is going to continuously give me trouble. What happens when my warranty runs out? Am I going to have to fork over thousands to replace the APIM every couple of months?

What are your thoughts? Is ANYONE having this much trouble? Is my Bronco the only one chewing up and spitting out APIMs? What would you do?

That is terrible. I know how much and how long you have waited for this Bronco and for it to be giving you this much trouble is very sad. But just replacing APIMs just seems to be treating the symptoms and not the root cause. your dealership after the second time should have dug into trying to find out why your Bronco is eating APIMs. Have you tried taking it to a different dealership? other than that, it sounds like the lemon law might be the way to go, they will buy it back and you can always get another Bronco, I just hope you can find one that fits the bill.

Yes, tried a different dealer the second time around because the first dealer acted like they didn’t know what to do. They (the first dealer) made it sound like it was a software update issue that Ford was working on and expected a fix sometime in the future. This didn't make sense, hence the second dealer visit. I might take it back to the second dealer and see if they can do a little more research. I think they should replace everything from the screen to the battery. It has to be in there somewhere.

I had a similar experience with my 23 F150 hybrid… would lose gps connectivity and lost Sirius connectivity completely… took almost 4 months to get it solved… In talking with the dealership president (after numerous missteps and parts thrown at the problem), we determined that (for God only knows) some configurations and option packages were causing the technology mishaps… I couldn’t use GPS or Sirius for the longest time…. Waiting for a software fix was excruciating, but ultimately the problem was fixed (maybe my own personal software update) and hopefully I will not have a repeat… The fix they put together for me is supposed to be a part of a more general OTA update coming…

Love the technology, but Ford could learn a thing or two about software updates…. I used to blame it on high school coders who were busy chasing girls (or boys), but I’m not so sure anymore…

I’m so sorry to hear the issues your having. It sounds like you have some gremlins that are more than replacing part after part. I’ve got about 23k miles, 1 year 3 months and have had zero issues. On road, off road everything performs as expected. I would definitely follow up and see if you can take more action. Here’s hoping for the best.

Sorry to hear about your troubles - these are definitely not common nor should they be tolerated. I can only imagine how frustrating and disappointing this must be for you.

Personally, I would cut my losses and work within my legal rights to replace the vehicle. (If that’s the Lemon Law route, so be it). Life is short and you deserve better.

On a positive note, Broncos are significantly more available now as compared to the timing of your acquisition so if you decide to get a new Bronco, your selection & timing should be an improved experience.

Good luck!

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles; it's a genuine source of aggravation. I occasionally encounter issues with my Carplay as well. The screen is fine, but sometimes I must restart my iPhone and reopen Pandora for my radio to recognize it. I'm unsure if my phone needs a software update or if there's something buggy in the head unit itself. Sometimes, it just takes a moment to re-establish a link to my phone, and then it works fine. Apart from these minor nuisances, I love the radio and my Bronco.

Sometimes my screen and dash display stay dark until I start the car. It happened yesterday after leaving it at home while I was on vacation for a week. It might be a power-saving mode thing. Other than that, my Bronco has been behaving normally.

If the issue has not been resolved after repeatedly replacing the same part, the source of the failure lies elsewhere. The dealer needs to broaden their diagnostic practice. I wish you the best, and that your problems are solved to your complete satisfaction. I'd hate to see this cause you to part with something you waited so long for!

Our screen goes in and out. The dealer says no problem found. By the time we get our camera out it corrects itself. Our cargo light stayed on for 3 months at night while driving. Quality of our 24 is horrible. 22 was good

This is super frustrating.. very disappointing and sorry to read this.... I however agree with the course of action you're considering .. As no one wants to be stuck with anything that doesn't work .. Absolutely not.

Do share what route you go.. and good luck,

I really feel for you.

Mine loses phone connection (Android) and Sirius randomly. I've not bothered taking it in because I feel it will just raise my frustration level.
I'm kinda tired of fighting the technology and service departments that are also struggling with the technology.
I'm not just taking about my bronco. I'm talking about Verizon, Freightliner, Ford (my 350), Mack, Cummins, DMV, and most recently the mortuary that handled my mother-in-law.

The radio is dodgey for sure. Its tempramental. So are the headlights of my truck, "Christine".
She is def haunted.
She click and clacks when I come into the garage. Its because she is excited about going for a ride.
She tells me there is no media on the device I've connected, (that she is CURRENTLY playing music from....)
Car Play??
When it decides to work. I'm not that fond of it anyway. But now and then it connects just to remind me she can work.
Headlights? Well they work well and are bright. The auto high beam dimmer is intuitive and works well. When she decides to use auto mode, which to be fair is about 80-90% of the time. Th rest of the time she doesn't feel like doing auto mode.
But they keep going on and off of auto control and want to come on during the day, I just change them back to auto mode. Then I park, get back in and the headlights are back on again, off auto control.
The radio also continually likes to try and connect to phones in its list that are no where in range. But it tells me it can't connect. To the phone that is 20 miles away. Yeah big surprise. Thanks Sweetie I get that.
Four-wheeling she likes to keep the rear camera on even when I'm in forward gears. OK. She is trying hard to please me I think. A few gear/direction changes and she figures it out. It only seems to happen when I'm using 4 low.
She isn't perfect but my wife and I actually wouldn't change a thing, she is sweet and kind of unusual, and I'm ok with that. She has personality. And this girl eats off road stuff like nobody's business. It seems like its not even trying I am constantly amazed with Christine's ability.
