Our baby Bronco is currently with the dealer and as been for over a week.

22k mi, 10 days out of 3 year ownership.

10/07/2024
Late afternoon when we tried to get it started to get home, it wouldnt start. This was after receiving a "limiting services to conserve battery" on the Ford app. Would not start.

We had it jumped carefully by roadside service tech. Vehicle turned on, all appeared to be well. Followed the instructions in the manual. Went to start it and the car started clicking over and over but not turning over. Hood started smoking. Battery was disconnected. Smoke siezed.

Later, we had the vehicle towed to the dealer after wigging out to Ford CS about what the flip happened.

10/08/2024
The following morning, Dealer reached out. Says they are backlogged but they checked it out, appears to be the battery, will replace. Battery replaced, they said they didnt find anything else.

Picked it up. Started okay. Still a little unsure but it was driving fine. No issues.

On 10/18/2024 start seems weird. Push button seems loose and when car turns over it's rather sluggish. However still turns on and runs okay. Ran some errands off an on. Still the same issue but is working. Sunday the sluggish start was very noticible and now we're worried. Reach out to dealer. Explain what happened, but it is still okay. Schedule appointment for a couple weeks out.

Car did not make it to appt. Stranded us in a grocery store parking lot Tuesday morning. Had it towed back to dealer. They call me, and basically tell me well your appt is not until 11/05 but we'll try to work you in.

10/24/2024
Car sits for days. Call another dealer, they said they could get an appointment 10/25.

Between this time, contacted Ford CS trying to get help and figuring out what to do.

10/25/2024
Contact 1st dealer. Havent even touched the car. I have it towed to 2nd dealer. They said they will look at it.

10/28/2024
Per Ford CS, 2nd dealer says 2-3 business days for diagnostics. Remaining patient.

10/30/2024
Still pending diagnostics. Reached out to dealer. Pending response.

Anyone else had a similar experience? It is ironic as I have taken great care with our baby bronco. Just replaced new tires. On time oil changes. Air filter. All the maintenance.

I really just want this resolved so I have my car back.

*UPDATES*

Happy Halloween! Looks like I am anticipating some sort of update hopefully on the diagnosis today.

11/06/2024
Appears to have been the starter assembly. Says it took all day to diagnose due to not throwing any codes. Battery was healthy. Just grateful I had resources to get around. As of today, still with the dealer. Remaining hopeful.

11/14/2024
Vehicle is back and working better than ever! Starter assembly replaced and all recalls handled! So appreciative of Ford Support and the dealer I worked with communicating and keeping me informed.

I was having some regrets about this investment initially, but Ford really stepped up and helped me through this adventure. Thank you, Ford!

Take a look for any recalls for the Sport. Our Escape that we had(same platform) had all sorts of TSB and an engine related recall. And I seem to remember there was one for the Sport also

The first time around it was definitely a battery problem. However the battery died possibly due to some secondary defect. That could mean the alternator, maybe the PCM/software, or perhaps wiring. It can take some time to diagnose electrical issues and some dealers will be better than others having seen a higher volume of problems and being generally less stupid. I once had a dealer fail to recognize that my tail light bulb was blowing out constantly because a previous owner replaced one with the incorrect bulb. My Jeep dealer does a full video of their diagnostic process so you can see exactly what they did and what they found and it’s completely documented.

Usually the big chain dealers have the most experienced techs.
