So I kept hearing Ford was going to be requiring dealerships to take an additional deposit beyond the initial 100 we paid for our reservations. My dealership still claims no further deposit will be required. What have you guys heard?

When are they wanting it? I don’t have any problem paying an additional deposit, just find it odd that my dealership isn’t asking for one when I thought it came directly from Ford that it would be required. My salesman had me send him my B&P pdf and said he will be placing my order as soon as order banks open.

Unique situation. All 2021s are built to reservation holder specs, not dealer specs. Normally there is a $500-$1000 deposit required when you factory order. In this case, if you order and don't accept delivery, the dealer has one on the lot he can sell for MSRP plus a grand or two and a ridiculous document fee. If potential buyers don't want to pay it, the dealer can challenge them to go find another one they can buy off the lot, and have a nice day. If my dealer wants an additional $4-900 deposit, I'm fine with it...

My dealership assigned an assistant sales manager to be in direct charge of this process. He is a straight forward guy that I have quickly come to respect. He told me a couple of weeks ago that they have just over 600 reservations on the books. His thought is the $1000 additional deposit will weed out those that are not 100% committed to purchase. I see this as a win for those of us ready to get this process started! I am just glad I reserved mine on the day of the reveal!

Pretty sure the conversion rate for those up in here is gonna be close to 100%. Some will be able to follow through due to extenuating circumstances...

My understanding is the additional deposit is at the dealers discretion and is not necessarily required. I've not heard anything about one from my dealer, but I won't be grumpy if there is one. Like others have said an additional might weed out some uncommitted buyers in the reservation queue.

I’d actually prefer to pay an additional deposit to help weed out non buyers, my dealership says no though... shrug

I bet dealerships don’t want to weed out the tire kickers for this if they get a bunch of folks that back out now they will have some Broncos on the lot to ask a premium price for. Now I have heard if this happens they will have some explaining to do, Ford will want to know what happened.

The number of reservations was over 190,000 a couple of weeks ago. The GM at my LFD said no additional down payment. He would be happy if I or someone else backed out of their order when the Broncos arrive. Its the only way he will get one on his lot till 2022. They are also figuring on 25% of the reservations not being placed as orders or taking delivery.

Just emailed back and forth with the Bronco specialist at my dealer (Coconut Point Ford). “No extra deposit” required by them when my order is placed.

Mine told me i could go as far as ordering it and it being delivered and saying i don’t want it. You don’t take possession until you sign the paperwork like a normal purchase at a dealership. Well that’s what he told me.

I just don't buy into this. I have special ordered two vehicles and was never asked for a dime to do so. The dealer pretty much said it the way it was. If you don't buy it, someone else will. This is the case even more so with the Bronco. Plenty of people will be waiting to pounce on any Bronco, no matter how it is equipped, that a customer backs out on.

If my dealer was requiring an additional amount of money to order a vehicle that I'm essentially buying sight unseen, I'm finding a new dealer.

I've never bought a vehicle straight off the lot, always special ordered over the last 30+ years and always paid some sort of deposit ($500 to $1000), and this is at various dealers along the east coast. So I wouldn't balk at a reasonable deposit. That said, I agree that a deposit might weed some reservation holders out and shorten the queue for those lower down. I also agree that most dealers wouldn't mind at all if someone backs out after their Bronco arrives on the lot. It would be one of their few chances to have one before 2022 and would command a premium from someone walking into the showroom. All that said...my dealer has not mentioned a Bronco deposit to me and didn't ask for one last July when I ordered my wife's Bronco Sport that is now built and arriving in a few weeks.

There is more than the few here, there are not that many members here, we don't represent a fraction of a percent. I was all set to go, wasn't worried about deposit but no communication from dealer either, that concerned me.
Having a job after the first of the year concerns me even more, signing papers for a loan that you don't know if you can pay in 2 months is stupid. I won't do it, don't criticize people who are wisely not putting themselves in situation that would result in a loan default. Its a smart and mature decision.
The plus is side it gives Ford time to get their act together and fix some of the issues with it.
