I'm thinking of getting an Outer Banks. I currently walk to work but got a new job and will be commuting 45 minutes one way every day. My Honda Accord gets great mileage but I don't love it. Can anyone attest to actual mileage of the Outer Banks? I know there are other factors when calculating mileage but in general, do you find Ford's claim of 25/28 to be true?

I sold my 2013 Honda Accord EX-L Coupe, which I never thought I would, to buy my Bronco. I traded a solid 30 mpg for a steady 17-19 mpg in my Bronco Outer Banks. I've driven 4400 miles, with 1800 of that on a long road trip to the Texas Off-Roadeo. I'm trying to change my driving habits to stick closer to the speed limit, but I do like to punch it every now and then just for fun.

My Bronco window sticker says 18/20 mpg, so pretty accurate.
(Note: 2.7, 10 speed)

Just to be clear, I have no regrets. I knew what the trade off was and am beyond thrilled with my OBX.

Please note a sport will get better MPGs than the larger Bronco. I have heard good things about the mileage on the sports especially the trims below the Badlands with 2.0l the lower trims have the 1.5l. If you need the better fuel efficiency you might consider the Sports brother, the Maverick with the hybrid it gets very impressive numbers. Just a thought.

I reset the mileage calculator and checked the mileage last weekend on a 200 mile round trip. My sport has the 1.5l and I got just over 33 going and just over 31coming back. Much better than I expected. That's one hour at 73 mph and 45 minutes at 63 mph each way.

In sport mode I’m getting 22-24 MPG, in normal mode i get 30, that’s the 2.0, I would think the 1.5 would be better MPG

I have the Sport-Badlands, most my miles are reverse commute meaning I'm going 60 MPH, not 25 like regular commuters. I mostly drive in Sport mode and if I pay attention to the Tach, I can get 24-25 MPG. At 60 MPH, my tach is 2.5K RPM, however if I speed up to 62 MPH, my tach drops to 2.0K RPM I can let the MPH slip back down to as low as 60 again without it downshifting. But if I let it drop to 59MPH it will downshift and I'll be back at 2.5K RPM

If you pay attention to your Tach, you'll learn your shift points and maximize your MPG without giving up performance.
