I was having fun till the engine froze up at 3000 miles

The engine took a crap on December 30th on my way home. Almost to a complete stop at a light and it locked up. It went straight to the dealer and I don’t have a full diagnosis as of 01/13/22. This sucks to say the least and this is likely a full engine replacement.

Anyone else going through this?
How long did it take to get an engine replacement?

Did they adjust the warranty or did they just hand you the keys back and say good luck?

Any inform is appreciated

Afternoon update:
My bad for not replying immediately to everyone’s response, I was working to pay for my Bronco. I added my information to 6g under the same Slosh1 name. I was hopeful someone would give me useful information. I am aware of the alleged valve issues but haven’t actually seen any pictures or lab analysis identifying the root cause. The biggest frustration as you know is waiting forever to get a car you have been waiting for what seems forever and it takes a shit. Not to mention I handed over 20k for the down payment I’ve been saving for a long while.
I still look forward to any constructive help my fellow Bronco enthusiasts may have to offer.

Update 1/18/22: Contacted another Ford rep and they are now corresponding directly with the dealer (Autonation). Still being told “next in line” for engine tear down and diagnosis.

update 01/21/2022: My bronco is still sitting Autonation since December with no progress.

update 01/27/2022: My bronco is still sitting Autonation since December with no progress.

update 02/03/2022: Finally got the Bronco in the engine bay for diagnosis today. So far they have found metal shavings in the transmission oil.

Is it bad that when I see an engine failure post I immediately scan the thread, see 2.7, and think that's typical? Sorry that you're joining the increasing statistic of V6 failures. Hopefully they can get it replaced quickly under warranty!

Fortunately, but still unfortunate, it seems to be those broncos that have been out for a while with some miles on them. Wonder how closely those engines were built together? This makes around two dozen that have been reported either here or on 6g probably??

That totally sucks @Slosh1 & sorry to hear about your misfortune.

It’s been 2 weeks since this happened and 10 days since you stated that the dealer would have a full diagnosis. Perhaps you can enlighten us about the response from your dealer & how this is being handed…

Sorry for the hassle! You’re not alone. There’s a thread over in the other forum that is tracking these and looks like you’re lucky number 26. There so far is a theme with these around engine build dates, but it’s not totally clear what the issue is yet.

Isnt the issue a bad batch of valves for that date range? I havent seen a TSB on this, but its enough of a known thing that folks are tracking engine numbers and date ranges. While this epicaly sucks for the OP, at least it will be warrantied.

OP sorry to hear about your problem. Terrible that your first post here is this. Please keep us posted. Maybe put it up on one of the other five or six threads about this topic. Just so we can keep them all together

Toyota just doesn’t ever change anything. They work out the design and manufacturing process issues, and the customers (happily) buy 5-20 year old technology. The downside is that the fuel economy and power oftentimes lags that of what’s current on the market. Plus, the interiors are usually dated. The new Tacoma shows that Toyota struggles with new launches just like every other automaker. Ford could do this, but they choose to differentiate on technology and need higher mpgs out of their SUVs and trucks since they make so few passenger vehicles. One of the reasons they make so many large vehicles is because they need higher profit margins to cover their higher built in costs (unions, etc). Not a huge union supporter, but I don’t mind buying cars made in America by people that are getting paid a decent wage.

Right?... Got his Bronco 3k miles ago. It blew up on 12/30. Decided yesterday at 8:48pm to join the BNation to post his engine failure at 9pm and then ghost the post?

My guess is that people are either hoping Ford will directly see their post and intervene or that someone who is a super expert in the process will be available and willing to guide them through. Unfortunately, stuff just goes wrong and Ford sells a lot of cars so they can’t sidestep their more efficient processes too often. Plus, there aren’t many people who have had these issues that are around on the forums to help (if you have your engine blow up you are less likely to stay an enthusiast). The OPs best best is to search the forums for similar previous issues to see what they can learn or to ask very specific questions in hope that someone can help out a bit based on their experience. I’ve seen a lot of people ignore good advice as well so I think that discourages some people from taking the time to post/help. If the answer or remedy isn’t easy or what the poster wants to hear oftentimes they will just ignore it.

I work in a large Dept and just from my personal observations, almost all of my co workers that own Jeeps have had a major engine or transmission failure before 100k miles. Quite a few GM owners I work with have blown engines in their trucks and SUVs with relatively low miles. I haven't seen, personally, any Ford or Toyota trucks or SUVs with engine or transmission failures. The lot is loaded with F-150's and they have been very reliable, which is why this 2.7 issue is so troubling. The engine seems to be very solid in the F-150, so I'm wondering how this 2.7 is different. It definitely isn't a straight swap over from the F-150. I'm on my 3rd 4Runner and the power trains have been bulletproof. I'll def be purchasing an extended warranty with my Bronco.

Solid post, but I chuckled a bit when you said bulletproof. Indestructible and bulletproof are pretty similar terms to me. ;)

I sell tools to mechanics and the Toyota service department is just as busy as any of the others!

FYI the 2.7 in the Bronco is the exact same engine as In the f150

Well, admittedly, the entire vehicle hasn't been indestructible. I did have issues with the Fox shocks, and they needed to be replaced under warranty. And I've had some issues with my head unit and Bluetooth. But none of the issues were something that would have left me stranded.

Consumer Reports came out yesterday with an article stating that the Chevy Silverado & GMC Sierra are having "Major" engine problems!
