How many Broncos are now sitting on "DIRT Mountain"?

Just fyi mine was produced on 4/14/22 and is on plant hold, with no reason given mind you, since then. Order Tracker states: "There are currently 880 similar vehicles in the same status being tracked using Ordertrack". Now, that seems like a lot to me, but is the number even bigger? I understand item constraints, I understand parts problems, and shipping issues, but I don't get why @Ford Motor Company will not inform us regarding what is going on. Nothing, nada. What's worse, my good friend who lives around the corner and has almost the same build as mine, had a production date of May 2nd, but guess what? That's right, he got his yesterday.

I do remember Ford informing me that I would not go into production until ALL the parts were present and ready for the build. Did that change (rhetorical)? What am I missing here?

Laura, thank you very much. When you say 90-day chip goal, I thought that was in reference to the previous set of trucks to be delivered by the end of March. Is this a rolling 90 per build group?

Any information is great. Just so close to the finish line but yet so far

Based on the photos that I have seen from dirt mtn, there are 1,000's of Bronco's awaiting chips, including mine I would think...

Yes, that's the group I'm referring to, the large number Ford addressed in February, with the goal of clearing them within 90 days, materials allowing. I'm not sure if they were speaking to just those present at the time, or if it was a rolling 90 days.

I personally think there is more to it than chips, why wouldn't FMC then put chips in those sitting there as they got chips and get them out to owners?? and then the ones currently in production go in line there, yet they continually are building new ones letting Dirt mountain sit?? Seems they have another issue with those sitting there than just plug in the chips if that's the true "issue"

Reports are coming out that the chip shortage has gotten significantly worse than anticipated, and there is no end in sight. I would say strap in, we are all likely in for a long wait. This is coming from someone who hasn’t even got a production date!

No facts to base my comments on but I would emagine that a portion of the available chips are put in post built sitting vehicles and a portion are allotted to to new vehicles, so as to not add all newly produced vehicles to "dirt mountain". They must think its good pr, to at least having some newly produced Broncos getting to the customers
Nothing ford motor company does in this respect really makes much sense.

The chips are made in Taiwan and Taiwan isn’t concerned about making chips, they’re concerned with going to war with china

Mine’s still on Ice Mountain or is it Thaw Mountain by now. This 90 day , May 24 EDD got pushed, rolled to July 30. To slap me more in the face, on the notorious May 24 date… Ford announces in mid August that 23’ orders will be open. Now, I know how 21’ ordered customers feel like when they waited & waited & waited. Is it more than a chip? I definitely want a safe functioning vehicle. Saw a car on fire today… don’t know what type, but wouldn’t want my car rushed off to me if issues held it.

When I asked them, Ford said that date didn't come from them and to hold off pushing news for it, just so you all are aware of that. Like the nav removal news when it originally leaked, there may be details overlooked by a leak vs. official statement. We'll see.

I'd hope that's true. They need to satisfy the original reservation holders way back in 2020 before taking on new orders they clearly can't deliver on in a timely fashion.

At some point this will begin affecting their bottom line in many ways, not solely on their balance sheet.

“Dirt Mountain” goes well beyond the MAP parking lot. Ford has Broncos and F150’s stashed in multiple parking lots across the metro Detroit area. I drive by them every day. I believe they are running out of space to store vehicles and are focusing on delivering as many completed vehicles as they can. They have a monumental job going back and retrofitting vehicles with chips and parts in all of those parking lots. Last month the Ford CEO said there were 53,000 Ford vehicles waiting on chips and parts during a speech to share holders. I witnessed a small caravan of Broncos being driven to locations multiple times over the past several weeks. It’s common in our area to see multiple F150’s and Broncos being driven by teams from the plant to lots or from the lots to other unknown locations.

Whew... got scared for a second... 53,000 vehicles is a ton of Broncos, and at the rate they are producing Broncos that would mean they have Broncos all the way back to October-ish last year sitting on the lots waiting for chips.

BUT it was Fords in general. I'm sure the vast majority of that 53,000 number is F-150s, with Explorers and Escapes not too far behind. If I were to guess, probably still in the 1000s for the Bronco—high 1000s for sure but likely still 1000s.

I bet it’s well over 10,000 Broncos.

We will have a better idea of the backlog in a few days when Ford releases their monthly Sales Release. Hopefully, a downward trend in Stock develops and the decline in April wasn't a one-time thing.
