Will 2021 reservation fees and down payments be refunded for 2022 estimated build dates that are cancelled?

If I pay a reservation fee and put down a down payment for a 2021 vehicle, those should be refunded if that vehicle cannot be delivered in 2021. And I should have the option to either accept the refund or pay it forward to a 2022 model.

If it’s not handled this way, then this is a scam.

You need to discuss with your dealership. There are dealers that said deposits were refundable. Mine wasn't one of them. When I reserved mine I did so with full understanding that my deposit was non-refundable if I canceled no matter if my order was a 21 or a 22.
2022 Bronco Black Diamond 2dr 2.3L manual Hot Pepper Red. Reserved 8/7/20. Ordered 1/23/21. Reordered 10/08/21. Scheduled week of January 24th 2022, delivered 2/24/2022

Everyone is allowed their opinion but when you put down your $100 reservation that's getting you a reservation slot, doesn't guarantee 21MY especially this late in the process since 21MY was due in April. So, whoever told you that you'd get a 21MY putting in a reservation this late is the issue not some scam as you claim. It's the reality in ordering a new vehicle standing late in line,

Remember, you are buying your Bronco through an independently owned and operated dealership, not from Ford itself. Each dealership has its own policy towards deposits and whether they are refundable or not. There is no blanket policy that covers every dealership. The $100 reservation deposit is through Ford, and my understanding is that is carried over from MY'21 to MY'22. It is refunded if/when you cancel your reservation.

I know one friend that will gladly take your spot for a 2021 or 2022 as right now one of the local dealership he went to is telling people they might not have anything to confirm until 2023. I have no idea if its hype but seems the Bronco is a popular topic right now. As for how you feel about a scam or bait and switch, thats between you and the dealership. I cant see how they wouldn't happily refund you the money because I bet there are several others that will gladly take your spot in line.

I hate to float this out there, it I wouldn’t be surprised if many of the reservations after January aren’t pushed to late 22 or 23 MY. I consider my October reservation as a late reservation and have always anticipated that I wont get mine until next year. And that was before all of the build issues came up

Talk to a lawyer.
If they can't deliver they broke the contract and have to refund the money.
