Someone posted a Ford Diagram of a dune flag mount below the hood trail sight. You have to remove the trail sight to access it. Like an idiot I got distracted and didn’t save the pdf.
I have tried every key word search I can think of in Bronco Nation and google and have come up empty. Has anyone else come across this post?

It’s just a mount location. It’s a factory nut-cert or hole for a standard whip mount like for a Firestik.
The directions were to simply remove the trail sight and the mount was just below. Anyone up to disassemble their bronco for science?!

Yes! That’s close! Certainly on the right track. Now just to confirm it’s actually an option on a real life vehicle!

man, wish this had been posted a few weeks ago. I've been trying to make one myself that looks almost identical. I've spent more than the $20 on time and money making mine.

Good Questions. I usually put flag & antenna somewhere on the tailgate, usually on the hinge.

Most of the off road parks around here want them on the front somewhere. I don't recall the load rating on the front sights.

Edit: The load rating on each trail site is 150lbs. That is a lot of weight so I don't believe a 6' flag is going to be an issue.

Interesting. Drivers in Sand Hallow, Utah, all seem to have whip flags on the rear.

I've noticed from some of the pictures that I've seen at Moab that they have them on the rear. Strange that it wouldn't be more of a "standard practice" type of rule throughout the US. Not sure if there is an advantage or disadvantage of one location vs the other. Consistency would seem to be more important.

I'm going to get one for each side and ride around with two New Mexico flags, like I'm a third world Generalissimo. :)
All kidding aside, this is a great option for a dune flag. I dont like the suction cup mounts because thats the kinda stuff I loose off vehicles all the time, and I am going to hard mound my antenna in the back so I want to keep the tailgate clear of other do-dads. On my list, and Bronco Graveyard is an OG Bronco community asset. Happy to send some love their way

For those riding at MI state ORV areas-

"There is only one type of flag required for the Dunes. All 4-wheel drive vehicles must display the flag mounted to front bumper at 10ft off the ground. All motorbikes and ATVs must display the flag mounted to the rear at 10ft off the ground."

Thanks! I knew it was at the front but didn't realize they are that specific that it has to be the front bumper.

I think the hood would pass, I can go find the actual statute. I was a certified ORV instructor, but the class was a while ago!
Here it is:
Truck / jeep / dune buggy

  • Front mount safety flag
  • Seat belt for each occupant
  • Eye protection and/or windshield
  • 94 dB sound level or less
  • USFS-approved spark arrestor exhaust system / reverse flow exhaust
  • Driver must be protected by metal roof and/or roll bar above and behind head
  • Passengers not protected by metal roof/roll bar above and behind head must wear American National Standards Institute (ANSI) certified helmet (or equal helmet)
  • Valid driver's license: 16 years and older
  • No operators under the 16 years old
  • Recreation Passport; ORV license and trail permit
