Porsche in 911 model ,991 (2012-3) started using electronic steering by wire. Most collectors were not really happy. They felt they couldnt feel the road. Had 2 2009 911 cab and coupe. Cab when pushed in a turn would fishtail. With my Porsche Cayenne Turbo has PASM and no issues like my 911S cab with PASM. Porsche sell alphabet controls for real big dollars, but would never take road. Even our Range Rover is used very limited off road on well maintained dirt roads. As for our Explorer take anywhere just limited by Ground clearance. Told Explorer dont do well with lift kits.So its our second Bronco Base for off road.
Electric steering may come in Base since options in higher models have Trail Assist and Trail Controls. one hand electronic systems, but Ford doesnt say much on electronic steering!

Yes, my understanding is that all the new Bronco models will have electric-assist power steering. This will come into play with the GOAT modes, as the modes adjust the sensitivity/aggressiveness of the steering based on the terrain.

The term steering by wire isn't really that by definition in most cars, what Porsche and now most others have is electronic power steering assist as TorqSurv stated rather than hydraulic. Infinity had one model with true by definition steering by wire, problem from a drivers perspective is that you are completely isolated from road feel thru the steering wheel, like a cheap video game console.
