I saw a thread somewhere mentioning the use of these, $25 Ford branded mud flaps for the Bronco, so I thought I'd give it a shot myself. My main concern is protecting the side of the bronco/doors from rocks thrown by the tires. The paint is soooooft. Wider flaps would offer more protection, but going wider than the already wide flares is kinda silly in my opinion.
Installing on a Sasquatch 2 door.
To make them removable, but strong I made the "bones" out of steel, and did a touch of cutting and welding to make custom brackets.
I had some angle iron laying around. So I took a wheel off and just started prototyping with soap stone and eyeballs.
I cut the angle iron so that the part of it that comes away from the vehicle is flush to the wheel well, and left enough of the right-angle section to make some bolt holes. Those attach to the crash bar.
I welded the other vertical piece to it, and then put some holes in it. I found 1/4-20 stainless steel bolts, washers, and nylocks. The larger bolts that attach to the crash bar thingy are M12x1.75, and about 3" long.
The welder amperage was way too hot. Whatever. Grinders and paint make me the welder I ain't. :P
Give it a paint job...
Install it...
You gotta love how grabby these tires are for tiny rocks. This is such a necessary addition to the Bronco.
Tested the fit, and there's no problem lock-to-lock.
Total cost, probably sub $40. If you have some junk laying around like paint and maybe some steel its pretty cheap and easy.
Rockblokz look great, but I just can't with the price of them. Like get real. I had a front set in my shopping cart too, just couldn't pull the trigger. If they were $100 out-the-door, I'd buy em, but not $269 + oversize charges + "shipping protection lol"... bring one pair of em over $300. At least these are Ford branded so they look like they belong, and you won't have someone swiping them in a parking lot.
