Bronco Riptide Project Vehicle Highlights Factory Accessories for the Sun-Soaked Coastal Life

DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 17, 2021
– Bronco® brand, the Ford outdoor brand of Built Wild™ and only-4x4 vehicles, today reveals the 2021 Bronco Riptide custom build vehicle, designed with West Coast fun and factory-backed accessory personalization in mind.

Following last year’s Bronco OG and Bronco + Filson Wildland Fire Rig concepts, the new Bronco Riptide project vehicle is designed for spontaneous outdoor adventures. With the roof off, doors removed and replaced with tubular doors, and surfboard rack and boards above, there is plenty of open air for the fun and sun to shine in.

The Velocity Blue exterior is meant to evoke tropical ocean hues. With durable marine-grade vinyl-trimmed seats in Black Onyx and Dark Space Gray and rubberized washout flooring, the Bronco Riptide custom vehicle never shies away from a carefree day at the ocean shore.

“For this Bronco Riptide project, we imagined a customer who enjoys the open air and a free-spirited West Coast lifestyle,” said Missy Coolsaet, Bronco color and materials designer. “We wanted the vehicle to demonstrate how Bronco customers can personalize their vehicle, letting different types of customers visualize what they might want to do with their future Bronco.”

Based on the 2021 Bronco four-door with Sasquatch™ Package for even more Built Wild capability, the Bronco Riptide vehicle features 35-inch mud-terrain tires mounted to 17-inch factory wheels with optional Ford Performance beadlock rings, Dana™ AdvanTEK® electronic-locking front and rear axles, a high-clearance suspension system with Bilstein® position-sensitive long-travel shock absorbers, plus exclusive Bronco Terrain Management System™ with seven G.O.A.T. Modes™ designed to help ensure Bronco goes over any type of terrain.

The vehicle showcases many Ford accessories available to retail customers at their dealer at time of purchase. Bronco customers can add the cost of factory- and dealer-installed accessories to their financing and roll it into their monthly payment. Accessories used on Bronco Riptide include a Bestop® mesh Bimini top, a Yakima® bike rack with Santa Cruz™ mountain bikes, and a RIGID® LED lightbar and mirror-mounted off-road lights. In addition, a unique prototype front steel bumper gives the Bronco Riptide project vehicle added Built Wild durability and capability.

Like the two Almond™ surfboards inspired by surfers and craftsmen of all varieties, the Bronco design team came up with two prototype crossbars that are bolted to the sport bars to show how overhead racks can be easily mounted without interfering with the soft tops.

Powered by a 2.7-liter EcoBoost® engine with 10-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission featuring Trail Control, Trail One-Pedal Drive* and Trail Turn Assist, the Bronco Riptide vehicle blends torque and performance that fits with its nature-inspired design.

“Thanks to the Bronco modular design, we were able to outfit the vehicle with adventure gear that allows for freedom and versatility,” said Coolsaet. “Whether heading off to the mountains or along the California coast, the Bronco Riptide custom vehicle is ready for adventure.”

The all-new 2021 Bronco two- and four-door models are being delivered to order-holders now. To learn more about Bronco two- and four-door and Bronco Sport, please visit Ford.com/Bronco.

*Trail One-Pedal Drive is an extra driving aid. It does not replace the driver’s attention and judgment, or the need to apply the brakes. See owner’s manual for details and limitations.

Love the look of this concept David. The Velocity Blue is outstanding with this setup.

Great to see the tube doors re-emerge. Also it is very interesting that there is a rack for a soft top/skinny top application.

It looks like a beautiful setup. But it also seems pretty tone deaf, considering all of the issues resulting in the current backlog. It seems like adding more configurations and options is just going to muddy the waters even further. Not to mention, it's hard to get hype about any of these features, because we know most of them won't actually be produced (primarily thinking of those sweet "donut hole" doors that don't exist, and the dash rail that I was under the impression, based on YouTube videos I'd seen, came installed rather than just having an accessory hole for them. I'd rather see more content about how they are working hard to fix the existing issues. Like actual video of new, improved roofs being completed, videos of truckloads of Broncos going out to their destinations, etc.

Also, this line is a JOOOOOKE!

I see it’s on a Black Diamond body. Will the Rip Tide have it’s own badge or will it use one of the others?

There are a couple things to explain as far as director’s commentary for this video.

First, the sharp-eared among you will notice that Jordan comments that Velocity Blue (the greatest of all Bronco colors) has been rare and that this is one of the first we’ve seen. Jordan wasn’t stuck under a rock since April as it might sound. The video was filmed in January. Numerous issues kept it from coming to light until now but that’s the reason he made the comment. This was the first VB Bronco that we ever saw and it was absolutely stunning.

Second, the long time BN diehards might remember a Black Diamond walkaround that was teased but never came. This is that video, again, for reasons it wasn’t able to be released when we hoped. We’re glad we can show it now and hope you enjoy it.

This is a project build that is called Riptide. I think it would be a cool name for a trim series but, for now at least, it’s just a concept Bronco.

I read about it this morning in Ford Authority. I’m a beach bum so it would be right up my alley. I’m sure I’ll make due with my Big Bend tho.

Right on, I’m glad the beachy side of Bronco is getting some love. I’m a mountain guy myself but doing some research into Cape Lookout NSS got me interested in some beach wheeling.

The January filming also then explains why the Riptide has the capable bumper; didn't that disappear from the B&P a few weeks before the order banks opened in January?

Capable bumper was mentioned in a number of places but it’s coming in MY22. Standard on BL and BD. Check out our article here for more.

Yeah, I’m trying to confirm but if this bumper, as it is shown here, is the standard for MY22 BL and BD then they just picked up fog lights as a standard feature. Not a big deal to everyone but it’s something.

I have VB ordered on my bronco. Love the color! I watched the video and have a couple of questions.

1). How do you turn the light bar and pod lights on and off without the auxiliary switches? What are they using for switches for them?

2). It looks like it has the speakers in the top bar from the B&O set up. Does it have the B&O system in it?

So BD comes with the AUX switches standard. The question is whether this build has them hooked up, some early concept builds didn’t.

The speakers in the back are the same on the standard and B&O sound system, at least in size and positioning.
