Hey all,

I’ve been looking at roof rack options for my 4 door hardtop for a while now, and am at a loss. I’ve looked at Badass Tents, Gobi, Exposed, and others, and from what I can tell, every one of them, except for Gobi, removes your ability to remove ALL of the roof panels. And the makers all cite 2+ hr install/removal times for the racks themselves.

Does anyone know of a legit rack solution for the MIC 4 door that, once installed, still provides for FULL roof and door removal in <1hr, or optimally less? (besides the suction cupped seasucker rails, or Gobi, which is awesome but a little beefier than what I was looking for)

BadASS was actually the first rack advertised where you could remove the roof panels.
Gobi correct me, is a fold-back right? are they available yet, saw their prototype if its who I am thinking of.
I'd guess most all quality racks will take you a good 1-2 hours to put together since they don't ship together.

Think youre right about Gobi being a fold back but they’re still in the preorder phase. Pretty legit setup, just beefier than what I was looking for.

For badass, I assume youre talking about the short rack? So that one does actually allow you to remove the rear panel as well? My impression from YouTube was that the full badass rack restricted you from removing the third row roof panel(s), so I assumed the shortened version did as well.

No rack (outside Gobi) can you remove the rear calm shell, but with the BadASS you can remove the front 2 and middle section with the rack on.

I spoke with the people at uptop, they have a rack for two door and will have one for a 4 door buy the end of Aug, 22. You will be able to take the front and middle panels off with the rack on. The rack will be held on by the two bolts up front and a couple in the rear. You should be able to remove the rack with in a few minutes, I would imagin.

I have the ZRoads rack, its not the worst and not the best......but was one of the first racks available at the time I wanted to buy one. Overall I like it. It's stout, holds a good amount of weight, movable bars in the middle, has just enough room to take the two front roof panels off......but its not a ton of room.

That Trailmax rack is cool but I just don't need to MADMax my Bronco with those side racks etc. At worst, give it another year, the number of companies making a rack for the Bronco will be hard to keep track of. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Another rack system I am looking at. I am not gonna buy any accessories until I am being built. So my rack will be a Gen 4:ROFLMAO:

I'm not so sure this is an accurate statement. That may be the case in terms of a FULL RACK set-up... Both BadASS and Trail Rax offer half roof rack set-ups and can be optioned to add accessories on the sides. They are promoting these set-ups as being modular. I'm not sure about BadASS, but I do not see why you cannot remove the clamshell to go totally topless with the Trail Rax half rack set-up.

The TrailRax rack mounts to the rear section of the MIC hardtop. You can't mount it without that section of the hardtop on the Bronco.

Have you looked at the Expedition One, Mule SAM rack for the Bronco? It has a hinge point where the rear top meets the passenger top for easy removal of all three top sections. You can also remove the front half of the rack and leave the rear portion of the rack on. This is the route I think I'm going.

This is a soft top only rack. I would be super interested in a hard top version but they don’t offer it.

This looks like a solid rack. I don’t think I understand your explanation of how that makes it possible to take off the entire hard top without removing the rack?

He has it ready to test on a 2-door and a hard top, so it might not be too far off. We were chatting this morning about testing.

I misunderstood the initial intent of what you were looking for. I thought you were looking for a rack that would allow you to easily remove the top panels, (front and 2nd row passenger) not the entire top. I am unaware of any rack that will stay on the vehicle while allowing you to remove the entire top (including the bolted on rear section) since most of the ones I have seen clamp to the rear section of the hard top.

Nice, keep us posted. This is a great concept, I'd be interested in a 4 door hardtop version if that comes to market later this year.

That Expedition One Mule SAM Rack looks like the rack design I've been looking for.
It looks like you can unbolt the sidebars of the rack at the point between the mid roof panel and the cargo roof panel! This is huge!

That would mean that I can unbolt the front part of the rails from the rear and not have to detach the rear portion of the rack from the cargo roof-panel--the rack would just stay attached to the cargo roof panel. Heck, it may also be possible to have no roof rack over the passenger panels, and only have a rack over the cargo panel.

1671829229800.png

And the price seems reasonable... this might be the one for me!!

Archetype Racing is dropping a new rack soon too apparently. They are claiming a modular design, but I'm not sure if it's as flexible as the Expedition One rig appears to be.
