A little Project While I Wait

Way back in 2005 I built a teardrop trailer and drug that thing all over western states in 4 years, until it just wasn’t feasible to fit the Four of us in it. So I parked it. One day in 2009 during a severe drought one of our oak trees fell on the trailer. The tree did only minor damage invisible cracks in the Varnish allowing water to penetrate and damage the plywood. Now that my boys are teens and I learned of these RTT they can sleep in. I have started to rebuild the teardrop as an off-road Boreas look-alike. I will be building the RTT and the roof rack that will go on the teardrop.

this was what it looked like when I first finished it. Extra points if you can name the location of the first picture.

I will update this thread as I make progress. I am planning to have this completed before my Everglades gets here. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

My guess is Colorado - I70 just outside Denver headed west…

I home there will be some bonding if not I will glue them to the side of the thing. LOL

No although it has been there I didn’t get a picture of it there but I do have some pictures of it in Fountain CO.

Made a little progress. I will be welding the fenders to the frame not bolting them to the side of the teardrop. Only spent a few hours on it and got one fender mounted. I am planning to move my axel back a hair so that’s why the fender is set aft. I’m an old stick welder but picked up this wire feed welder from my Pops took some getting use to the welds will get better. I am really rusty it has been 15 years since I welded anything the (original trailer) and that was not a good day I was using a rented welder and was running a fever of 102.4 that day and needed to get it back to the shop. Anyway here is a few pics of the progress.

Made a little more progress. I finished all the welding and a ton of grinding and sanding. I shot it with primer then a gallon of Raptor Liner on all surfaces. I adjusted the ride height to give it a 3” lift so now to add some ~30” tires and steelies.

Correction I did not use Raptor Liner I used its twin product Custom Coat bed liner. It came with the Custom Coat gun which works ok my only complaint is that the trigger is a little loose at the hinge and the area that activates the gun is rather small. So there were many times I squeezed the trigger but nothing would happen until I repositioned my grip. Other than that the liner went on easy and looks better in person than pictures. Debating on painting the whole camper with the tintable version.

Ok got a little more progress done. The walls are 3/4” ply wood, the roof will be insulated with 1/4 ply inside and out. The cut out for the front wall are for the Air conditioner and two cabinets the upper two. The walls are glued and screwed from the inside so no screws will be seen from the outside. The front wall corners have been filled with a mix of fiberglass resin and sawdust.

There will be a tongue box that I will build that will house the AC and the cabinets will be accessed from inside. There will be a large access door to vent the AC and to access the storage in the lower part from outside.

Nice work @Jakob1972 - what’s the plan for external sheeting/weatherproofing? Are you planning a roof vent?

I am going to glass it then shoot it with the tintable Bedliner tan to match the Bronco and some sort of graphics. if I dont feel comfortable with this set up i will skin it in Aluminum.
my original teardrop I did not add a roof vent. I am going to frame it and wire it for a Fantastic fan but I don't know if I will install that right away.

Oh I forgot to tell you where that first picture is.
that is At the top of Tioga Pass the trailer was 4 days old. That suburban was two weeks old.

A little more progress. This bit is going a little slow because I am waterproofing the plywood. And epoxy fillets on all the joints.
got most of the front storage box completed and dry fitted. I need to run the Electric before I seal her up. The hatch is to access and vent the air conditioner.

The hatch looks like a large dry erase board. I was thinking of leaving it and wright messages on it for fun.

Ok this weeks progress. Finished the back wall of the kitchen and got 2/3 of the interior cabinets done. And 3/4 of the ceiling installed.

Took a few weeks off for COVID and Vacation so back to it. Made some progress on the kitchen and completed the tongue box I need to order my power center so I can figure out exactly where to install it I was playing with the idea of putting it in that step up on the left side of the counter top. That is directly above the battery box so it puts all AC/DC in one location.
