@TorgSurv, what gear do you take to zero in on a spot like this? Are you a map and compass purist?

I'd love to do some sort of challenge race using only map and compass to reach waypoints (orienteering in a 4x4), but for this one I'll use a gps app on my phone, probably Locus or Avenza (maybe both). Honestly, though, I've already looked at these coordinates in Google Earth so many times that I could probably drive right to it with no nav aids.

Apparently Johnson Valley is "The Original Proving Ground".

@David, can we get Ford or BN to sponsor this Round Up and give one of these shirts to everyone that attends? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

This is awesome... excited to see what you find.
My prediction: it's the original spot of the first reveal

I would love it Ford sent some 2021 Broncos out to meet us there, but that's not currently the plan. Maybe some of those lucky owners of new Bronco Sports will come out to test their off-road capabilities (hint @Steinfeld9 ).

I added some links to the Notes section of the Round-Up page, but I thought I'd post them here as well:
BLM info on Johnson Valley OHV Area
Marine Corps info on the Johnson Valley Shared Use Area (Currently Open)
Marine Corps Public Usage Map

The coordinates we're searching for are in the JVOHVRA, on top of the hill just North of Power Line Road and South of Anderson Dry Lake.

More to come.

I've uploaded a kml and pdf file to the Round-Up Page (Locations tab), and added the following tentative schedule to the Notes section:

THU (12/31/2020)
3pm Cougar Buttes & Skull of Johnson Valley
5pm Cougar Buttes/Lucerne Valley Camp

FRI (1/1/2021)
8am Bronco Coordinates
11am Mine Tour Loop through Fry Mountains
2pm Cross Mountain Route and/or Upper Shaft Canyon Trails
5pm Rockpile Camp

SAT (1/1/2021)
8am Sand Dunes (South of Melville Dry Lake)
9am Means Dry Lake
10am Fissure Mountain Trail (through Hartwell Hills, Hammers area)
2pm Los Padres Mine & Giant Rock

Trail difficulties:
A lot of the driving will be on dirt roads and/or open flat desert terrain. Any 4x4 will handle it fine.
The Mine Tour Loop through Fry Mountains is the easiest trail section we're planning to do.
Cross Mountain/Upper Shaft is rated moderate, but should be doable in most stock 4x4 vehicles. If it looks to difficult, we can reroute as needed.
Fissure Mountain Trail is mostly rated moderate, with one short difficult section. It might be too difficult for me. If needed, we'll take another route around the Hammers area.

The approximate route and coordinates for most of those locations are in the kml file. Times are approximate, and sections may need to be skipped based on conditions and other unforeseen factors, so if you're planning to come, let me know so we can share contact info. I'll provide real-time updates here if cell service allows.

I’m really bummed I’m going to miss it. I won’t be back in the area until Sunday. Safe travels, have fun and take pics! Let me know if you think my 4x4 Crew Cab long bed Super duty will make it. I was thinking about driving through later if it isn’t too crazy

Walked a few feet to the coordinates:

Here's what I found:

Nothing there but great views and fresh air. I built a small cairn to mark what I've dubbed Bronco Knoll.

Awesome! Definitely looks like the B&P background. Not exactly the same though. I’m hoping to make it up there while we’re at King of the Hammers.
