How-to successfully order parts from Ford’s accessories site

Alright… I can’t believe I am writing this post. But hopefully it will help someone in the future.

For the past two months Ford has been offering 20% off most accessories via Ford’s Accessories site. So… I bought some stuff and had it shipped to a local dealer to save on shipping costs. Figured it would be easy and take 3-4 days to arrive as advertised. But NOPE, it was not easy, and I was left sitting here 2 weeks later wondering what happened to my order.

I’ll save you the full story, but it boils down to two major issues:
  1. Dealers have no insight into the orders placed on Ford’s accessories site.
  2. Ford’s accessories site gives no mention of when the accessories are delivered to the dealer.
The first one I think is a huge issue, and I hope Ford fixes it sooner rather than later for all of the parts department managers around the country. The dealers cannot look up your order… it is a black box to them. What they will get is a bunch of boxes with blue labels on them… these labels have a order number and customer reference ID on them… and… that’s it. No name, no phone number, no email address, nothing to let them know who ordered the components. And since they cannot look up your order by the order ID, they have no idea who it belongs to.

E5934A4C-B33B-4D9D-8A5B-42E788C989FB.jpeg

The second issue is Ford’s Accessories website does not inform you when the accessories are delivered to the dealer. To this day… my order is not listed as shipped on the Ford’s Accessories website even though I picked it up yesterday. Combined with the first issue… and your parts could have been delivered to the dealer and you wouldn’t even know it.

So the quick and dirty is… if you order from Ford’s accessories website and have it shipped to your dealer, make sure you have a conversation with your dealer’s parts department ahead of time. Provide them with your order number and a list of part numbers you are expecting to get so they at least know who the order belongs to and can contact you when it arrives.

I think it’s worth the extra expense to skip this aggravation and have it sent to your house.

For smaller accessories, I definitely agree. Some of the larger accessories are mega expensive to ship to your house though.

Also for anyone wondering… the cargo area liner for the Ford Escape is absolutely not worth $120. You’d be better served with some cardboard and duct tape.

Thanks for the information. I been waiting for 6 weeks for a steel storage drawer for my Bronco. I called ford and it was shipped May 13, dealership has had it for some time. Exactly as you described.

Thanks for the info, just went through this ordeal yesterday trying to order door bags for my 2 door. Finally just called the dealership parts department for help. They ordered them for me, and even offered me a discount since I was buying a Bronco from their dealership.

I placed an order and called my dealer a week or so later. They said they received the parts and I drove over and picked them up.

I do agree that you need to communication with your dealers parts department. My dealer was listed as a shipping location.

Anyone able to use points for purchases on the website? Or is it just in person at dealership?

No, you cannot use FordPass points online. Ford completely revamped their accessories site late last year around November-ish, so I would assume giving customers the ability to use FordPass points is on their to-do list of things to do.

But for now, has to be ordered through your dealer.

I think it’s also odd you can’t use your points when ordering online and HAVE to go into the store to do so. Seems like somewhat lazy website designing.

I had same problem. Ordered mudflaps and they shipped them in two boxes. Got one box but not the other. Fedex lost one of the boxes and had to go back and forth with Ford Accessories to get new rear ones shipped out (over a month of back and forth). My package sat at North Jackson Ohio Fedex location so I gave them a call and they said it was lost and to call Ford Accessories. My Aunt works for Fedex and she told me ground shipping is basically subcontractors for Fedex, while Express is actual Fedex employees. You might pay a few bucks more but I would always do Express and have it shipped to your house, haven't had a problem since and I've been ordering a lot off the site.

Yah I ordered the trailer brake controller in december and just got called last week, June, it had apparently been there since March. Turnover in the parts dept and no one knew it. I had contacted accessories twice during that time and they had no visibility. Anyway, install is Monday.

I can't even begin to list the issues I have had with ordering any type of parts, online or at the dealer, from Ford. A quick summary:
  1. Ordered accessories from the dealer. After 3 months and no idea when/if they were coming, I cancelled. Ford gave no info to dealer about ETA. These were not back-ordered as I found them on ebay and got them within 3 days.
  2. I returned a headliner kit to Ford. After 3 weeks and no info, I called Ford to see about the status. They received the part and the refund was in process. It took 5 additional weeks of calls to finally get the refund. (During this time I was assured 4 times that a supervisor would follow up with me within 24 hours. Still waiting for those calls!)
  3. My MIC top is being replaced. As of this time, Ford has sent 4 tops to my dealer, and none of them worked out. The first one was for a 4-door (I have 2-door) and the other 3 were too damaged for my dealer to install them. No idea when Ford will finally get an acceptable top to my dealer so they can install it.
I have found that many of the genuine Ford accessories can be found on ebay and are listed by Ford dealers. I've bought most of my accessories this way and have found that I pay the same price and get the parts in a few days rather than weeks or longer. Fairway Ford in Canfield Ohio has a number of listings on ebay and they get those orders out quickly.

That’s such poor business processing practices. You would think that a’n icon like Ford would be smart enough to figure this out. Hey look on the bright side… at least you have your bronco in your possession! Most of us yayhoo’s are sitting around wishing we had a bucking horse to order accessories for. Ford limited the 20% discount at a time when we don’t have the rig? Would you order parts for a donkey you don’t have?

Actually I've ordered a number of items from the site with no issues. Ford sends me an email with tracking to the dealer (usually Fedex) which I put in my tracking app and the dealer (Mullinax Apopka) always calls me and leaves a message within a few hours of delivery. I'm getting ready to order a couple of additional items right now to take advantage of the 20% off. Note that when you order there is an installation option you can pick for items you want the dealer to install or that require the dealer to activate like the remote keypad. Usually the cost is quite reasonable.

I have had a few orders through Ford accessories and had it delivered to the Dealership. They have a building that you can order parts, they have a parts department in their service building and then they have an accessories department in the sales building. Accessories close around 4:30 or so, parts is open til 6. I can't get there before 5. And neither of them can look up my order. So, my hood deflector took 6 attempts at picking it up. People at the dealership are really nice though. But, yeah, you do have to go by there after a week of placing the order and see if they have it. And, my gear shade is being shipped from JTops, so I need to decide on a tonneau cover for the back or the secure storage thingy - and do I order from Ford, or order from my dealer? Not asking - it is my own private conversation there.

Good question.

It was until the end of May… but hopped on the website to check on my order and it was extended through until the end of June. Might get extended again, might not.

I’ve had one of the worst experience ordering from ford accessories and deliver to my house. Long story short I bought a rack for my bronco and they sent me 2 of the same sides. After learning that they require the products be shipped back in the original boxes or they wouldn’t guarantee the return. living in a town home you need to break down boxes quickly. I ended up finding and taping up my box. Only after the second call I got my return shipping label. I asked to speak with a supervisor to figure out a better way to exchange my rack. Like if they could send me a new rack put a hold on my ccd if needed once I receive the rack that I should have gotten send the other one back. None of that is “what they do”. All they kept telling me is we don’t do this or that. At no point were they willing try to figure it out. I ship it back see that it’s been delivered by looking at fedex tracking. My ford account shows nothing at all. I call them back to find out why I hadn’t been notified that the order had been received and why I hadn’t talked with the supervisor that I requested on the first call. The agent shares that returns aren’t guaranteed and it can take 30 days for it to be looked at and then if it’s accepted then they will exchange/return they product. On and on this has been the absolute worst buying anything and exchanging something I’ve ever experienced. This started by ford teams sending the 2 wrong sides.
I can’t believe that this is what we should expect to happen buying from a company like ford. An accessory business that has the potential to bring in a high amount of revenue they are missing the mark significantly. I expect better, we all should from ford and I challenge the ford team to understand that you’ve got a huge opportunity in front of you to fix this for all us.

Huh…. This is strange. I’ve ordered from the site, received confirmations with tracking numbers, and never waited longer than a few days for items sent to the house.

I agree though: Once you enter the dealer into the equation, you’re adding another layer of difficulty for no reason. Just pay the shipping cost to your house. You’re already overpaying for the parts, so what’s a few dollars more? Being cheap won’t solve anything.
