Looks like the Ford Performance tune for the 2.7L engine has finally dropped. Has anyone had a chance to grab it and try it out yet? I have been waiting to see the numbers for this one. Will add to the ol' list.

I would like the tune, without the HP and Torque increase and continue to be able to run "regular" fuel 😃 My only complaint about the power train is the throttle response and "off the line" torque reduction. That being said, it looks like a good upgrade.

Considering this myself. Not excited about the premium fuel component, but is an easy way to gain HP and torque.

Definitely forces your hand on the fuel but I can accept that. I dig the 350HP mark.

Wish it didn't have to be installed by dealer for warranty! Covert Ford's service department in Austin only wants to do oil changes, anything else they can't tell you when they can get to it.😞

I think if a non dealer shop are properly ASE certified, you can maintain the warranty. It’s somewhere in the documentation.

This product is sure to join my list of "must have." I'm looking forward to getting objective feedback from real-world users in the meanwhile.
I plan to feed only premium fuel to my Bronco, so that requirement is not discouraging to me. Now I just need the Bronco!

So, what happens if you run 87 octane? Engine damage? Crappier performance than pre-upgrade? Would you get base premium performance at 87 octane with the upgrade? For us non-Motorheads.

If you use 87 the engine tunes itself not to knock which reduces possible peak power. If gas is 6.00 and premium is 6.20 what is 20 cents a gallon, $3 a tank? Who cares? Just sayin'.....

Here in Kalifornia gas WAS down in the fives, now back up in the sixes. Most gas stations HERE are 87 octane is X, 89 is (X+.10) and 91 (no 93 here) is (X+ .20).
I filled up though tonight for $6.49 a gallon for 91. THAT is actually a decent price LOL as city gas stations are around $7 a gallon for 91.... SAD isn't it.

I’m not sure that answers my question.
You look at the graph and even the blue line of “before tune” is listed as with premium gas, so I’d assume that with an untuned engine and running 87 you would get less performance that the blue line.
I understand that with the tune and running premium gas you would see approx the orange line.
So if you ran 87 with this tune, would it perform like it was using premium (prior to tuning) or would it perform worse than original for some reason? And any chance of damage?

In reading the information on the tune it says premium fuel required. The tune is designed for premium and that is where you will see the increases. Now I’m not a design engineer but this is my two cents worth. You can use regular or mid ranged fuel and it will work because the engine will adjust for the fuel. It will detune. More than likely you would not get 87 octane run at the original 92 octane performance levels. I don’t think that is how it works. If you want the lower octane to improve, try an octane booster. But if you are spending the money for the performance pack, why wouldn’t you put in the premium fuel To get the benefit? And I don’t think they would put this out under a manufactures warranty if regular gas was going to damage your engine. I have driven both the 2.3 and the 2.7 and both have plenty of power. Let us know how the PP works out on your Bronco! And if you really want to know, reach out to the Ford engineers and see if you can get an answer. Let us know what you find out

I would never tell people that have a performance tune designed for premium fuel, that they can run the tune with regular fuel.
With the factory tune, the engines knock sensor is there just in case a parameter is exceeded in the factory tune.
If you load this performance tune AND run regular fuel, you are relying on that knock sensor nearly all the time to keep the engine safe.
You have to ask yourself, is it worth the risk?

Like I said I’m not an engineer, and I’m not recommending the lower octane, I said you could run it. I have no plans for the tune and I will only run premium. Why would you even bother with the tune and not run premium. And ultimately people who are gonna run it need to see what the specifics of the warranty are. If the lower octanes would somehow cause a catastrophic failure, or serious damage, it would say something along the lines of “running lower octane fuels can cause x,y or z and will void the warranty.

I think this is the answer. Premium fuel is required at all times. This warranty info does not say a specific model vehicle but it is very specific in its wording. just read through this info some more. This is from 2021 and is not including the Bronco. I will search for newer more specific info, but it looks like a blanket warranty for all performance packs. Don’t see why this one would be any different.

Thanks guys for your input. I don’t plan on doing the tune but was just asking “in case” i did. Hope to have mine in hand this week.
